Thers a lot of pros and cons to a UV sterilizer. They kill a lot of beneficial bacteria, and from the looks of your tank, you need it for your corals and such. But im not an expert on them. Do a search at the top of your page on uv sterilizers. Theres been a lot of threads about them. maybe you can get your answers from them. Goodluck

I have a UV for my 65 gall tank.....and it's a LONG store! (Ill try to make it shorter.)
I left for a missions trip and it was about 9 days long.
I had every thing mom and dad had to do on a clip board
and I gave them a Emergency number(A pet store that I trust) just in case some thing
happend....and guess what some thing did happen!(9-days later)
I walked in to my room and........... :scared: :scared: :scared:
!!!!MY WATER IS GREEN!!!! I don't even know if my fish where alive!?!?!
I don't even know how my mom and dad feed my fish!?!?!
Anyway, we where thinking an what we can do to fix the problem? We tryed
what some one said
put a lott of acitvated carbon in....that help a
little but not a lott. Then we tryed a large water chang with
RO water....that did nothing at all!! Finaly we got a 25watt UV Sterilizer from tetres pond
That was on sale! That got all the green water out +
(I had water fleas and it got that out too!)It helps a lott too with diseases!
None of my fishes or invert's died! It took some time though (2 Weeks)
but it took care of the problem!

!I hope it take's care of your problem!

It all depends on why you are purchasing the uv. If you are purchasing it as a killer/combatter of parasites/marine ich save your money as they are ineffective against that disease. A uv will MARGINALLY improve water quality.
There is no need for a uv on a well maintained closed marine system. Money is better spent on a top of the line protein skimmer or some quality live rock.

I agree to, but I suggest if you need it, OR if you have the money$$ for
it, OR you find one on sale, get it. You probable dont need one now but you
might. Also you dont need to get a "high quality" one! A inexpensive one
will work just fine. !hope this will help you!

Spend your money on a good skimmer and if ick is your major concern then you should look at quarantining your new additions first.......If your waters turning green then there is definitely a problem and you need to find out what is causing it instead of masking the problem.......

For you I'd recommend one...ever since I've gotten one...i've never had ICH..that could also be due to having a good QT too...
Here is the key...
Are you listening??

Get a HIGH powered and a SLOOOOOWWW Pump.....like 100gph or less
I have the coralife Swirl with a sloooow pump...works great..atleast I think... little alge and never ich... *knocks on wood*

That looks like a good design. Slow flow is the key. I would never have fish without one but some ppl. swear by em and some ppl. swear at em.

If uv's were effective against ich...we would all have the answer and no one would ever live in fear of the disease wiping out a system of fish. We could sit back in our recliners and drink a Stone Cold Beerwiser and forget about it.
They would be recommended by all the experts and advanced hobbyists as the Ich solution......Right?

NO WAY! You don't have to worry about that! BUT make sher that
you don't putt one on a new tank!! or you might be wating a LONG
time for the tank to cycle!

It WILL do a good job nuking the beneficial micros in you system, which is why some will tell you not to run a uv on a reef.

This is one of those subjects where you just have to agree to disagree. There are some of the very best systems that have UV running on them & just as many without.
