Thanks for the clarification.
Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea if the newer electronic MH ballasts are worth the extra cost.

I have the 660 and am running 2 bulbs right now...(gonna be 4 soon)...now, do I absolutely NEED to use fans to cool down the bulbs, cause the fans I got (8" from walmart) seem to cause the temp to fall... significantly! even on the low setting.
I moved a fan to the floor and have pointed it up just to get some air in the back. temp is now stable.
so, is the test if you can touch the bulb without burning yourself? is that what you should strive for?????

My opinion is that you're not required to cool the bulbs. I've found that they just last longer that way. A stable water temp is more important.
