All clams sold fresh in a store are supposed to be live, they cant sell dead clams because you arent supposed to cook and eat fresh clams if their already dead.
cool video

I was reading this and wandered how true it was that Littleneck clams would consume the nitrates in the tank.. If some one could please confirm this thanks!

seeing as just about everyone said they reduce nitrates, i would think they do.

i wouldnt rely on them to bring it down significantly though. its just a bonus, so to speak, that comes with a nutritious, fresh meal.
again, you must understand that most of these people have an aggresive setup/an aggresive fish who need their teeth worn down.

My puffer loves clams, however I've been scooping them out prior to to seeing this thread. Anyway, I put the clams in my freezer so they would stay "fresh" or so I thought...would they be considered dead now? I didnt know clams were still alive when they were sold...learn something new everyday.

I think freezing them just puts them in a type of hibernation. I know grocery stores keep them on ice.

clams from the grocery store should be kept on ice not frozen they will die in the freezer keep them in the fridge untill they go in your tank
