"Farm Sanctuary was founded in 1986 to combat the abuses of industrialized farming and to encourage a new awareness and understanding about "farm animals." At Farm Sanctuary, these animals are our friends, not our food."
Is this like PETA ?

That's the problem... since when can a man be told that he cannot keep cows because they don't look "content"? Is that what this organization is pushing for?

Sorry for delay. No, you are not being rude. But, if more people were aware on the treatment that factory farm animals endure then their life can change. Farm animals have a good life. Especially the ones at Farm Sanctuary. The animals on Factory Farms do not have a good life and suffer from the moment they are born.
About Farm Sanctuary:
Farm Sanctuary is a national, non-profit animal protection
organization. Each year we rescue, rehabilitate and provide
lifelong care for hundreds of animals rescued from factory
farms, stockyards and slaughterhouses. In addition to operating
the shelters, we work to gain legal protection for animals
used in food production and to raise public awareness about
factory farm cruelty and cruelty-free alternatives. The Walk
for Farm Animals helps fund Farm Sanctuary’s rescue and
protection campaigns.

PETA covers a more wide area like animals used for testing cosmetics and circuses that abuse animals to perform tricks. They also run campaigns about factory farming. They are more global then Farm Sanctuary is.

I am all for small farms. But, they are being pushed out in favor of factory farming because there is more profit in them.
Farm Sanctuary pushes for people to be vegetarians or even better vegan. The saying goes-"If slaughter houses had windows, everyone would be vegetarians." If you saw these pictures of cows and pigs and chickens and turkeys, I hope you would get upset too. They don't ever get to be outside roaming free and feel the sun on them.
I was eating meat 4 years ago. Thought nothing of it. Till I started reading about the suffering of these animals.
I just found out that the turkeys have to be artificial inseminated. Reason being is because the growth hormones that they give them to make them heavy and large breasted makes them awkward so they can't breed naturally.
But, many people do like their meat. I just want more people to be aware of the atrocities in factory farming and how a lot of animals are still conscience when they are being slaughtered. It is just so sick. It should not be happening in this world. We are not suppose to be barbarians. You can download a brochure titled "Why Vegan" here: http://www.veganoutreach.org/whyvegan/
Click on the "Download" button.
Zoom it up to 100% and read all of that and tell me if your stomach doesn't turn. It is just so unreal to me how these people can work there.

That is fine. All I want is more people to be aware and to stop factory farming. People can still have their meat. Just as long as the animals don't suffer in the process or still be alive when they are being slaughtered.

Don't feel obligated to answer this question, (I am not trying to be nosy) but why would you choose this over something like... increasing public awareness of the truth about Abortion? Just curious...

There is no real lie about abortion. It is basically cut and dry. I do believe that a fetus is just that. It can not live without the mother at day 1.
But, I am and others are speaking for animals who are able to live on their own but just can't speak for themselves.
There are lots of charities out there. I would rather give and work as an animal rights activist then say promoting a cancer research organization. Especially one that researches on animals which their physical makeup is totally different to ours. Which is why so many drug companies had to pull their products after people died or developed other symptoms not known to cause that in a rat. Totally ridiculous.

Tiberius, (just curious) why are you doing this for... um... animals? So what if an animal suffers? In my humble opinion, a man should be able to treat his property however he deems best. (don't get me wrong... I would never treat my animals that way...

So what if the animal suffers!!!! Have you no compassion?
I was trying to find some footage of factory farming but most of them you have to log in and confirm that you are 18 and older. Why? Because the footage is extremely gruesome. They have plenty on youtube. But, you have to log in with your age. I found a lot on peta.org. Here is one about chickens raised for KFC
http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/video....long&Player=wm
I couldn't even watch the whole thing. This is not natural for the birds to endure. It is completely cruel yet in your mind, you believe that these belong to KFC so they can do want they want to them!!!
I used to eat KFC years ago till I found out about this cruel practice. I then switched to free-range chickens but to my horror, I found out that they are debeaked as well and kept crammed in tents.
You need to read a lot more and become more aware of the brutal beatings they do to animals. They do have feelings and can be hurt just like humans do. Sure, people say we are top of the food chain but, these "farmers" do not have to take out their aggression on these animals. They could easily euthanize the ones that got trampled on instead of just dragging it by its' leg to "the dead pile" and let it suffer till it dies. Come on now. Read and watch these videos.
If you have guts to watch these then here are their archives:

Indeed I do have compassion. But that does not mean that animals should have rights like humans.

Ok we're gonna kill the animals anyway. They are going to suffer anyway.
Just curious...Do think that people in jail should get the electric chair as a death penalty?
My math teacher was tellin' us a great story of him raising chickens. hahaha. It was so funny. Let's just say he enjoyed shooting his shotgun. LOL...Note: He worked on a small farm.
Note because you're gonna ask or comment: I do have compassion. I totally agree with what ClownBoy says.

Animals do have rights. Reason why we have the Animal Welfare Act and people can get prosecuted for torturing animals. Ever watch Animal Cops on the Animal Planet? But, that law does not apply to farm animals raised for food or even horses. So you think that horses should get slaughtered and used for food as well too? What about the mares whom are solely raised for their urine to make Premarin? They are constantly kept pregnant to produce that urine. What do you think happens to all those folds? Esp. the male ones!! The female ones are just used to replace the ones that are basically all used up. That law needs to change to incorporate farm animals. They do not have to be tortured and thrown around or spat in their eyes with chewing tobacco juice. Or, kicked or left to die slowly on the dead pile".
I take it that you did not view any of those videos.
We are just trying to get more people aware of the torturing and esp. the pollution all those factory farms produce. If more people knew about this there would be a faster change. But, because people are just so sensitive now (probably from ingesting stressed out meat!), that the videos on that site can't be shown on TV. Lots and lots of people are just so unaware that this is even happening. Esp. the older folks who thinks their meat still comes from some farmer who shot the farm animals and did start cutting them up when they were dead. Doesn't happen like that anymore. Lots are still alive.
It takes app. 2400 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef! According to Water Education Foundation.

Thank you so much. Glad to hear someone on this thread supports me.
The walk was great today! The sun never came out which was a blessing. It just started to rain about an hour after it was all done with. Passed out a lot of flyers to people walking around the Pier. Had people walking throughout the park and seen our set up and joined in for the cause.
Met a lot of people who think just like I do. Found a great recipe for a faux chicken casserole. Played with all the dogs people brought for the walk!
