How often should water changes be done on a 90g set-up, with a sump and good protein skimmer? Also, what percentage? 10%, 20% ? What do you guys do?

Im hoping 2 30g changes a month will keep things in check. as for the OP. people seem to like doing multiple changes a month over one big one

Some do them weekly, some bi-weekly, some monthly...I even read of a few that do them every 6 months

That is why I say...it works for me....what works for one in this hobby doesn't always work the same for someone else
OP...you have to try different things, important to test your water, and you will know what changes need to be done

Dilution is the best solution to pollution. 12% Weekly for me. I have seen a tank that did water changes once yearly...
Pretty pretty and awesome tank. It was a softies only and I don't think it had fish.

Well if you lived closer I would gladly give you an afterschool job to maintain it for me....it seems like all I do is take care of my tanks now...

AND I am setting up another one...AHHHHH what's wrong with me....kids are almost all gone and I strap myself to the house with FISH

Whatever works best to keep your water parameters in check and it depends on feeding schedule, number of fish, type of fish and so on. I do 10% weekly.

I thought tangs would not get along if you put them in the same tank? Looks like you have few of them together.... do they pick on each other? I guess since you have such a big tank its ok.....

I think size of tank has a lot to do with it...they don't bother each other at all...I also think certain tangs can't go together...not sure which though, but I do know the ones I have are okay...

i have a 150g and I do a 15- 20 gallon change biweekly... I have 3 homer buckets and 2 5g water containers makes it alot easier. I also use a drill driven siphon and 2 10ft hoses, 1 to empty into my kitchen sink, one goes in my sump.

i have a 225 with a 120 sump and a 90 .
its in the basement i keep a 55 gallon tank between then for mixing water and there is a sink fixture coming out of the wall right there.
so i am constantly making water.i just drain the tanks.
40 gallons for the 225 and 10 for th 90 .
then just use a pump to refill from the 55.
try to do it weekly.
it is a perfect set up.
i also have a 33 gallon tank just for the r/o water.
its nice to have a basement again.

In general; The larger the bioload ( fish ,corals etc) the more the water change. If you have a 100g tank with 2 or 3 small fish once a month at 20% is probably fiine. Put 10 big fish in the same tank and 20% once a month is not near enough. Feeding also effects your water change needs. Don T.
