I am cycling my tank something is happing that I don't understand. I have an Amonia reading .25
I have a Nitrate reading of .35
I can't get a reading on my Nitrites (NO2) My test isn't registering anything? Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks, JP.

Sounds right for a tank experiencing an ammonia spike. The bacteria that consume Nitrite reproduce faster than those consuming Ammonia.

JP,
If you've just recently started cycling your tank, the ammonia reading of .25 sounds reasonable.
The .35 nitrate sounds odd to me though. What test kit are you using for this measurment ?
What method are using to cycle the tank and how long has it been cycling ?

Thanks for the responses. I'll try to keep this explantion brief.
I have been cycling this tank for 8 weeks. I was going to do FO but after I cycled with fluids for 3 weeks I then cycled with 3 damsels. Things went fine. I was Watching the tank and just after dinner the three damsels "fell" to the bottom of the tank. I took them to lfs and they are currenly awaiting a new home. It seemed like an outside toxin. I quickly did a 50% water change. Removed the CC Substrate and washed it. I then added 60 lbs fiji rock and this set up has been running for 2 weeks. I still concerned about water quality. I currently have 2 small damsels and they will be removed if find them breathing hard. I do have other FO experience but this is my first attempt at a reef. I will be buying a light and getting that correct but first the water.
my temp is currently 82. Thanks
