Water Movement ?

How much water movement is needed in a 46 gal bow front. I have a HOB filter and am switching to a canister. I have them both on currently (waiting a few weeks for the canister to build up before disconnecting the HOB permanently). Yesterday I unplugged the HOB and left the canister filter only running. This really took down the water flow/movement into the tank. I have a small 50 powerhead on one side. I also have a rio 1700 (I believe that's what it is). I put the 1700 in to test it and it was really strong, I thought way to strong. When I disconnect the HOB should I put in this powerhead, maybe face it to a side?? Or is the movement fine the way it is? I have some xenia trees and some anemones, along with some fish in the tank. Thanks for your help!!

see if you can find an attachment for the 1700 to disperse the water flow alittle so its not so concentrated. I know what you mean when you say it seems to strong. I have one and put it in my tank and water ended up on the floor when i turned it on lol

Thanks for the help. I do have an attachment that I can put on and it divides the water out by two, which would at least dispurse it a bit. The only thing with the attachment is that it seems to practically stretch from the back to the front of the tank and doesn't look all that great. Is there any type of valve or something I could attach to be able to control it?
