Water problems Need advice quickly

Ammonia 0
nitrite .25
nitrate 40
This is after a 25% water change. Should I do another one now? Wait until this evening and do another one? Have a slow drip of water coming out over the day with a slow drip of water replacing what I take out? Im not sure how this happened either. I can't find anything dead. I did not clean the tank out yesterday because we went to the zoo but I didn't think this would happen either. No one seems upset by it. Anything I should be watching for specifically in them?

Those levels are not harmful in the short term. No need to stress about it. Spend your energy looking for what disrupted your biologic filtration.

Something is still wrong and I'm out of saltwater until tonight...
Ammonia less than .25 but not 0
nitrite .25
nitrate 40
I reduced the amount of I was feeding. Cleaned out the tank. Rinse there food. Its been 3 days with bad water readings despite water changes each day also. What can and should I do at this point and are these lvls dangerous if I can't do a water change until 430 5pm tonight?
edit: I think it might be a mute issue. Im not sure they are gonna make it. They are acting bad. Twisting and turning acting really stressed out.

I added some amiquil and an extra air line. I haven't been able to find one baby this whole time so I am assuming it's gone. I've had one mini disaster after another I guess...
My husband thinks they might have been poisoned. He said he woke up last night and smelt gas. The stove was left on the ignition so it was releasing gas. He said the kitchen smelled awful and thinks maybe because thats were they live it might have gotten into the water. Any ideas if that idea might be possible?

This is how the seahorses are acting..

Also I found Nabisco dead.
I assumed babies would die, but this one died all because I couldn't keep water parameters right.

I so sorry, it really doesn't look good. I would change a lot more than 25% I'd do 50 t 75% today and then again tomorrow and run carbon hoping to filter out any toxins and get the ammonia and nitrite down.

Yea it doesn't look good. I've decided if these guys don't make it I'm done with this hobby. It's suppose to be something fun entertaining and peaceful, but if all I can manage is to kill my pets theres no reason to stick with it.

I encourage you to give it another shot, stick with something easier at the time being to give yourself a little break. We need more people supporting this hobby, mom and pop petshops are disappearing all over the country. It is a very rewarding hobby and sea horses are not at the easy end of it. I am sure you are upset, but if you get out now I bet you will regret it.

so sorry they are having troubles. Kinda looks like they are being effected by ammonia. do a few more water changes, or a complete one. PM reefnut or Dan. Reefnut keeps dwarfs and know quite a bit about them.
Dont get discouraged. You picked on of the more difficult horses to keep, because of the small tank size and the feeding habits. Beleive me I have lost quite a few horses and it is very painful, along with over a hundred babies. Not all little ones make it. You should try something like Fuscus if you wanted a smaller horse. They at least eat frozen
If I could talk hubby into another tank, I would love to give them a go.

They are doing worse I'd say. Even after changing 3 gallons of water throughout yesterday my parameters are still bad.
Ammonia less than .25 but not 0
nitrite .25
nitrate 20.
I lost one more baby. The adults are all unhitched just laying against the plants in the tank. Some moving around the top of the tank a lot. I almost put them in the reef tank in a breeder net but figured theyd die from that change So I didn't Im no better off today with wanting to quit that yesterday. It's to heartbreaking just to kill animals.

Have you tested the water you are using for your water changes? It would be very unusual for a trace amount of Ammonia to show this long.

YES, it is heartbreaking :(....BUT sometimes things happen that we can't explain
The horses look kinda drunk.....I'm really sorry this is happening to you....If yo uare not ableto save any...Don't give up....Just take a deep breath, and look at everything you did, and see if there is something to change
or just get a couple of little fish for now....

Yes I tested the water I was using as a water change. I also used amquel and I thought it was suppose to help remove trace ammonia? The water is also cloudy. I added a new bag of chemipure and still nothing looks better.
