Water still not real clear, help!

Ok. I hooked up my Whisper Power Filter last night (5-15 gallon filter). I have a 15 gallon qt. It has been running for about 11 hours and the water does not appear any clearer then before I hooked it up. Do I need a larger filter or do I just need to wait longer for the water to clear up? The only thing in the tank is saltwater, heater, powerhead, and filter.

You just have to wait it out .... it'll clear up.

Good question though, what kind of salt mix did you use?

If salt isn't mixed properly with the water then Calcium carbonate can precipitate. This will cause a cloudy look to your water.

I mixed it until all of the salt was dissolved. There is just a little bit of salt left at the bottom of the qt. This is very frustrating. All I want is clear water. I'm nearly ready to go buy a small bag of different salt and dump the water. Ill probably get a different filter too. I don't mind waiting but this is crazy. It has been nearly 24 hours and water looks just as cloudy as when I started. I can see in the tank but it is not crystal clear like most tanks.

:notsure: probably just needs to cycle somemore and then it will clear, new tanks always
(atleast the ones that i've had) get cloudly after a few days of setting them up,
I would just let it sit i'm sure it will clear up.

Did you use Tap water or purified water?

I have not even started the cycle yet. I still need to throw a piece of live rock in it to start it. I put the filter in and thought the water would clear up but it has not.

Should I just throw a piece of uncured rock in the tank to start the cycle and wait it out? How long should I wait for the water to clear up? The filter seems to be working fine.

oh, well you have a while to wait anyway, whocares if it's cloudly you know?
just start cycling and it's bound to clear up.

I have a Whisper Power Filter for a 5 - 15 gallon tank. I have a 15 gallon qt. It comes with a Bio-Bag filter. It even says right on the front that it keeps water crystal clear. However, its not doing that for mine yet.

is the wisper a hang on the tank filter if so I sugest getting a canister filter in my opinon the wisper filter should only be used for freash watter sounds also like your gph is not up to the required amount get a small canister filter that will do 150-300 gph and you should see it clear up in a 24 hour period

Yes it is one of the hang on the tank kind. The filter is simply for bacteria colonization. Why should I get a Canister filter? My powerhead is a Maxi-Jet 600 which produces aroound 160 gph. That should be fine for a 15 gallon tank.
