WOW .... definitely because of the heat. Get some small fans and let them blow across the surface of the water. Do you have air conditioning? :D

I have been told that changeing the salt content in the water can help to. Do some research If I remember correctly if the water is hot you want to lower your salt content

my tank used to run at 83-84 degrees all day long. even at night. what I have done is i leave at least a window cracked in my house. I have put one small fan on the top of my tank blowing at the water that is on for 12 hours a day, and I put one small fan in my sump area that is on 24 hours a day. Keeps my temp at 78 degrees all day now. I have a 60 gallon tank and 35 gallon sump . fans do wonders when they are blowing on water! :) i say screw chillers, just use small fans. Cheaper to run, not as loud , and only cost about 15 bucks each!

I have a 75 gallon and have been experiencing the same problem over the past few weeks with the water temp being to high. What I do is I take 5 gallon buckets, fill the first with saltwater (ensure correct specific gravity etc..) and leave the 2nd empty. In the night when it's cool outside I leave the 5 gallon bucket that's filled with water on the terrace so that it get cool. When the morning comes I take the empty bucket and fill it with 5 gallons from the 75 gallon tank and replace the missing water with the 5 gallons that was cooling teh night before. Repeat the process the following night, only take the 5 gallons that you drained from teh tank and put it on the terrace/outside to cool. also, what you can do is leave the covers on the tank open, it'll help somewhat. You can add the 5 gallons of cool water gradually until the temp drop to normal, it has been working for me the past few weeks.

If you're not already using fans, get some. Point one at the tank from the front, point one so that it blows across the water and evaporates more water. Set your heater higher so that the temp doesn't drop rapitly at night. As you found out ice doesn't work. Lowering the salinity will help with dissolved O2 but not temp. Don't lower salinity if you have inverts in the tank.
Also consider reversing your photoperiod so that the lights are on when the temp in the house is lower.
