Way's to cool your tank

Came home today to find my tank temp was on the high side. This has never been a problem for me until today. I have central air and the tank is in a spot that stays pretty cool, but for some reason today the temp was at about 81. I recently installed VHO's and I know they run pretty hot so I shut them down early tonight, but should I buy a chiller or do something to assure that this won't happen again? I know it won't even be close to running too hot once the winter arives......any ideas?
Thanks
Vic

do you have them mounted in a canopy or hood? if so you might try adding some fans to it? Any fan blowing into the canopy would be nice.

You could also set up a fan to blow across the surface of the water in your tank or sump to promote evaporation. Evaporative cooling is quite efficient, and can lower your tank's temperature by several degrees.

Personally, I feel like keeping your tank relatively constant is more important than what specific temperature it's at.
A few degrees shouldn't matter either way.
I would find your peak temperature during the day (assuming that's 81) and set your heater to go on at about 79 or so.

I had the same problem running my new vho's on a icecap660 in a canopy and i ordered 2 fans (one for intake, one for exhaust) My temp dropped from 86-87 to 82-83.5. The fans have sensor probes that work very well. They sense the water temp and the lamp temp and adjust speed accordingly up to 150cfm and are very quiet.....I love them. Best advice some one gave me. I would post the site:notsure: but i can give it to you if u need. They're about $45.00 but are VERY WELL MADE ! I considered and looked at several cheap models:notsure: And even though i was not keen on spending $100.00 for the pair...I am soooo glad i did........

I agree with Bang. I keep my temp at 82 F, drops to around 80-81 at night. House is at 77. You will have no problems with it being at 81.

With the lights and pumps, mines been running 81-82 fairly consistant...
Every 4-6 weeks as my T4 builds up calcium the temp will hit 84 and I get all panicky  ..I clean the pump and I'm back to 82...
If 84-85 is still in the "safe" range..I'll still clean my pump..I just won't get so panicky over it...:D

The temp. in my 10g during the day is around 82, I have a fan in my room and in the morining I put it on the back and forth mode. This circulates the air around my tank and keeps my temp at 82 for during the day, an at night I just turn the fan towards my bed and the heater keeps the tank around 80 degrees. If I forget about the fan in the moring the temp. usually ranges throughout the day around 83-86. So for me my fan really just keeps it more at a constant then anything. That range goes up and down, thats why I use the fan.
