After spending most of the day a bawling snotty mess i decided to do something proactive so i went ahead and cut off my hair for locks of love

seriously folks this is the best cause in the world and it takes no money no effort all you do is grow your hair out (it takes me usually about 14 months to get 10 inches) and cut at least 10 inches off and mail it in.
anyone else up for the challenge? I'm starting my fresh new batch of hair today.

Good for you Jen, proud of you. Unfortunately, my hair doesn't get long enough to be used for wigs. However, I did shave my head down to almost nothing in support of two guys who work for me that are current going through chemo treatments. Wasn't much for me to do, but they appreciated it.

I find such nice people on this site! What a dear sweet person you are! My hair is pretty long but not 10 inches unless I cut to the scalp...I will comtinue it let it grow and possibly donate. A salon around here does a style for those who come in to donate, my sister did it a few years back.

an old friend of mine's daughter just did this as well. when she was told what Locks of Love is, she only needed 1" more and they wanted to know if she wanted to wait. she said no, just take it now while i'm here

oh by the way they accept old hair (for our former hippie friends) as long as it is at least 10 inches and is bound by a braid or rubber band at one end
any hair bleached ,permed, grey (they got some nice shiny grey ones from me lol)

That's a wonderful thing to do!! My middle daughter and I have donated before and hopefully will continue to do so. Taylor has donated twice so far. I've donated once, but my hair is currently down to my butt and I'm looking forward to cutting it all off :D

They won't use the highlighted pieces for the hairpieces, however that doesn't mean the rest won't be of great use. Plus I would imagine that they could sell of the highlighted pieces in the same manner they do for gray hair,etc......it's sold off to offset the costs of making the hairpieces. It all helps in it's own way.

GUIDELINES FOR ACCEPTABLE DONATIONS
Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable.
Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.
Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable. If unsure, ask your stylist. We are not able to accept bleached hair due to a chemical reaction that occurs during the manufacturing process. **If the hair was bleached years ago and has completely grown out it is fine to donate.
Hair that is swept off of the floor is not usable because it is not bundled in a ponytail or braid.
Hair that is shaved off and not in a ponytail or braid is not usable. If shaving your head, first divide hair into multiple ponytails to cut off.
We cannot accept dreadlocks. Our manufacturer is not able to use them in our children’s hairpieces. We also cannot accept wigs, falls, hair extensions or synthetic hair.
Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches.
Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails.
Curly hair may be pulled straight to measure the minimum 10 inches.
10 inches measured tip to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece.

Please Note:
Shorter hair will be separated from the ponytails and sold to offset the manufacturing costs. Although the shorter hair cannot be used in the hairpieces, it still greatly helps to reduce costs.
Gray hair will be accepted and sold to offset the manufacturing costs.
Colored hair is not usable if it is colored over bleached hair.
