What are your powerheads doing?

I've seen them listed in some impressive signatures. What are they attached to? Sponge filters? I like using the AquaClear Quick Filters (for water polishing)in my FW tanks, but I'm worried about using one in my new SW tank, in case it removes minerals or something. I need to agitate the water surface, and can't get the spray bars to stay in place with those little suction cups...

I second that. I use them for current also.. I do not run prefilters on them due to that would be one more sponge to clean.

I have only had one fish get hung, he was sick and could not swim well so he got vacumed.. Crabs stay on the bottom mostly so they do not get in them. If your worried about it, you can put a small nylon screen over it but you need to clen it often.

Maxi-jets come with a nice little strainer on the end to keep fish and stuff sucked into them. Most people use them only for current.

you said that you where haveing problems keeping the suction cups on the spraybar? Well one way to fix this is to have the spraybar go all over your tank. if it is already running you might have a problem but mine works great!! what i did was build a rectangle out of pvc and 90 degree elbows. i drilled the holes all over then i decided to change it and add bars across the top left and right and the bottome left side of the tank. i did this by using the 90 degree pvc with the extra hole. it holdes itself up and i dont have to worry about it falling down!!!(sorry for the long post

I'm using AquaClear 802 powerheads (5) until I can get a closed loop external pump operating.
The bottom half of Tronic heater guards fit over the AquaClear intake perfectly. The heater guards are about $4.00 apiece and are not very noticeable at all. They DO attract Coralline though and have to be soaked in vinegar every 6 months.

They're great for a quarantine tank! I find much too large and conspicuous for the display tank though.
