What else can make this noise?

Thought the noise would disappear when the mantis was captured but alas
it still exists in the tank. Haven't dismissed the possibility of a 2nd Mantis, but have yet to catch a glimpse of it. My question is, are there any other hitchikers that can produce a sound that I relate to the snapping of chewing gum?

Aha, pistol shrimp it could be...... will continue to look for evidence of molting etc. That could explain the piercing hole on the base of the tailfin we saw on one of the damsels.
