This literally happened overnight. Could my emerald crabs be picking at this?? I have a habit of constantly taking pictures of my tank. I briefly looked over my tank this morning when I turned lights on, this afternoon/evening when feeding I got a good look at my blasto. The tissue seems to be peeling up. All param's are ok.

I suspect the emeralds...they've been known to do that.
I wouldn't doubt it, stupid things are constantly crawling all over my coral. Well, I guess I will leave it in there for now. Should I do anything to help it out???

Do the crabs have plenty to eat? I know they say they are reef safe but they are oportunistic and will pic on just about anything if they are hungry enough. Maybe give them a time out to let the coral heal?

If they come out when you feed, try feeding them directly....I know you are gonna laugh at this....BUT My emarlds eat scallops...I put a small piece on the end of a feeding stick....put it in front of the crab.....slowly at first till they realize it's food.....then they will take it, and hang out munching for a while
then they have a cigarette and take an afternoon nap....OK...JOKIN ABOUT THAT....hahahahahaha

LMAO, that's hilarious. I have never seen them eat when i fed the tank until tonight. I fed mysis shrimp and they actually chased it. Like the crab actually ran across like 10 inches to grab this shrimp. I will try feeding them from now on. They are constantly picking at algae in my tank. Maybe since they pretty much have the algae in check they are turning to other sources.....hmmmm. makes sense

I am sure Gill will have something to say about my crabs eating frozen....LOL
Emeralds are always picking.....so YES...if they are hungry, they will "taste" other things.....by giving them a piece of food directly, you also are NOT at risk of polluting your tank....believe me....they will not let go of it

How old is your tank? I had a hammer that got chewed up over night, I had a Bobbitt worm that finally had gotten large enough to become a problem, it had been lurking in my rock from set up time. I discovered the little demon by putting in moonlights and watching the tank in the middle of the night. I saw the rock it was using as home and got it out.

I was at the LFS on the weekend, they have a huge reef display 200gal there was an emerald crab, pretty big, he had a turbo snail turned over and was picking away at it, my 9 year old didn't like that to much.

Lets see what we can do....
I agree that some of it looks chewed on. Although, a dying coral could attract many different animals; so it being chewed on may be the result of it not doing well.
#1--Are there any coral close to the blasto that could sting it? Many things have long sweeper tentacles and blastos are pretty delicate creatures and offer almost no defense to other coral attacking.
#2--is there a leather in the tank?
#3--what amount of flow is hitting the blastos? If it's too much flow then the flesh may get injured.
#4--is this piece attached or can you move it down lower to recover?
#5--have you been feeding the blasto?
