What is a sump?

What is a sump, what is it used for and how would i make one becausei have a spare tank that would fit under my stand and it sounds like they are helpful

A sump is just a collection area for water. They are a useful place to hide heaters, dosing equipment, skimmers, etc. It eliminates the clutter inside or on the side of the display tank. This makes the display look a lot more natural.

It's also good for increasing the water flow and giving the tank more stability with a larger amount of water in the system. You'll need an overflow and a pump to connect the two tanks.

what are the dimensions of the 35gal. I have two wet dry/bioball inserts for a 20gal long i'd like to get rid of. Complete with overflow boxes etc..
