water change is the only thing most reefers should do, unless u hv an abundance of sps and clams.

I feed a variety of coral foods...Sunday morning, and I turn the skimmer off for the day.
I use Seachem Reef builder for Alkalinity in my Auto Top Off.
I feed my fish once each day..Frozen variety.
I feed my brittle sea stars a chunk of raw shrimp once every other week at lights out.
That is all that goes into my tank, besides doing water changes.

Walt Smith Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement - twice a week
Kent Marine Super Buffer - 1 teaspoon to each 5 gallons of top off water
I spot feed (with turkey baster) a mix of: Rod's food, Coral Frenzy, and Reef Nutrition products about twice a week

all i use is H2O and salt.

Never
, ever just dose your tank...test first...iodide actually becomes a poison if you have too much.
Basic rule: never dose what you don't have a test for... EVER.

Your LFS sees you as a big dollar sign!
I wouldn't dose iodide, that could be a disaster. Unless your tank is packed out with SPS and clams, you don't need to dose calcium. A good water change is all most people need. It's all I use.

I disagree a bit, even coralline growth can use calcium, as well as snails, stars, etc. So it should be tested for in most tanks with LR/inverts...or if for no other reason, than it is a player in the pH equation. And pH/alk problems can kill fish.

I use a buffer in my RO/DI and that's it.
My tanks are plagued with coralline. I'm afraid it's starting to reduce the availability of biofiltration within my LR.

But dosing without even testing is awful. And most systems don't need additional calcium, it's in the salt that you're using for your water change. That is enough for most systems. To just dose is a big NO-NO in my book.

That's what I'm afraid of on some of my rocks!
What do you use for the buffer?

I certainly did not say to just dose it which could be very risky indeed
. I did not mention adding it at all.
I said it needed to be tested for, as part of the pH equation, and not just if you have SPS or clams. It could well be needed in certain tanks...
There is no one answer to the OPs question, because tanks are very different, salt mixes are different, etc. What is added should be monitored.
