Hi everyone, I am a littel sad i have read almost all the threads about tangs and I am a little discoraged
First what tang would be good for a 75 with a couple damsels, flame angle, and 2 clownfish
I hoped to get a powder blue but I read all your succes stories with them, just kidding they seem so hard to have.

IMO I wouldn't get anything other than a Yellow Tang for a 75G. I have a 100G and am looking at adding 1 maybe 2 more Tangs...but that's just my opinion.

A 75 should be enough room for most "simple" tangs, however, check some "other" websites for more information.

Didn't you just contradict yourself?
I've heard bad things about keeping Tangs in such a small tank...I feel a little bad on getting one for my future 90g. Wait for the "Tang Police".

I've got one of those yellow tangs in a 75. He is pretty new but seems to be doing well. The thing about tangs is the linear swimming space. THe larger tangs need 5 feet or so of tank which is 100 gallon or so. I'm holding out for the 240 (8feet long!) before I get a BIG tang-powder blue or purple or . . . .

you have a powder blue in a 55? I feel bad for that fish...
I also would not recommend putting any more tangs in your 75...

powder blue doesn't belong in a 55 and neither does a blue hippo.
for the 75 a yellow OR a purple would be alright, but only one tang and that would be your last fish for sure.
when you say clowns i assume you mean perculas.

We have a 90gal tank and we keep both the Yellow & Purple Tang in there as well as some other fish and coral.

Oh my goodness, you have CLAMS too? THat's pretty cool! . . .J/K

I think a younger/smaller tang would be OK. THe 5 foot rule was for adult/larger tangs. Maybe? I'm not sure. . . :notsure: It may be a preference, too.
OUr yellow is around 2.5 to 3" long in our 75. (We don't have CLAMS, but he seems pretty happy.

I saw a powder brown in a 55 in a LFS swimming from one end to the other VERY quickly. I don't know what stressed it out, but it would surely have benefited from more linear swimming area.
THe blue hippo can get to 12" or so. WOW! That is a big fish. I think the full grown yellow would be uncomfortable in our 75. :happyfish

On average a 55 gallon right on up through a 110 have the same demision for the most part in terms of lenght. Therefore, they are about the same in terms of keeping a tang. Its not the gallons but the amount of room they have to swim.

fishfinder,
yellow tang could be ok , kole tang but whatever you do dont go with the larger tangs, many people will tell you that their fish are happy in a small tank (how many have they loss?) tangs get very large and they need the room to do so just take a look at a large tank with tangs in it and you will see their habits of swimming non stop from one end to the other. (rick)
must run i can hear the siren closing in (tang police :scared: )
