Meowzer if I may ask, what does running no carbon have to do with tangs? Also what is a grounding probe?
If you go to the disease section, and look up HLLE..it explains it....(probably better than I could..LOL)
Carbon is one of the things considered to possibly cause HLLE in tangs...A grounding probe eliminates "stray voltage" caused by powerheads (etc) in our tanks...Also considered a cause of HLLE in tangs
Not that stray voltage would be good for anyone else either

These things are debatable subjects. Probes need to be installed correctly also..I run carbon with no HLLE ever...
Stray voltage..... yadda yadday yadda.

How does the grounding probe work? Where is it connected?

You don't agree with the stray voltage theory???? I had carbon...got HLLE...got rid of carbon, added probe, fed vitamins...got rid of HLLE....That's all I know about it...LOL

how mature and what size is ur tank? what size were the hippos when u got them? the smaller ones tend to be very fragile. ur name says 125 gallon? the floating method u used isnt all bad, and shouldnt cause tangs to die within days.

I have a kole tang i got my my lfs,,, acclimated him and threw him in my tank (not to say this is always a given but ive not had a problem yet) he does great, i run carbon, no probe and have never had HLLE, or any problems with the tang. I had a yellow that got septicemia and died (in my old tank) and will eventually get a sailfin when i get a larger tank.
