What is this

Help pleae I am starting a new tank put some dead base rock and just a few nuggets on live rock and this has started to grow on the base rock can anyone tell me what this is Thanks

its just dead coral skeleton,Looks almost like a bubble coral skeleton ..had one looked just like that when it died

I thought the same thing but there was no coral on the rock at all it was just some dead base rock and these are just growing out of the rock.

i dont know...the only thing that looks remotely like that is halimedia which is a type of macro algae. But halimedia is green so im stumped.

It looks to me to be eg pouches. I know that there are several species of invert that lay those spiral egg pouches, do you have any Snails, Cowries, or any other invert in the tank currently?

I have some Llyanassa Snails and a fighting conch and just a few damsels

They are eggs from a Murex snail.

No problem. What I can't do is tell you how they got there if you don't have that type of Snail.
