bang guy thats an awesome mandarin, how long have you had him? what do they feed on? i've always heard you have to have a well established tank, with plenty growing for them to eat, meaning, u cant just overfeed the tank and let them eat that off the bottom. any ideas?

I have a mated pair. They eat Ostracodes mostly but readily pick at Copepods and some Isopods.
I think these fish are extremely hearty but need tiny live food for long term health. I strongly recommend a well established refugium and 100 or so pounds of live rock per Dragonette.
Some will take frozen food but you shouldn't rely on it and there are a lot of other ways to supply pods like pod piles or heavy algae growth.

No eggs hatched. :(
Raising Mandarin Fry will have to wait until some of my other projects are going better.
Here's the happy couple:

My favorite fish is a Clown Trigger too. Unfortunately, my 10 inch Clown is in someone else's tank now. :(
I sold him cause I am going back to a reef. Thats really cool, but I do miss my clown. He was awesome. :)

Today i went to a fish store and saw a small clown trigger poor guy was covered in ick if i had a hypo tank and if i had 59 dollars i would have tried to cure him. I wish pet stores would see that fish are LIVING ANIMALS and it should be just as sad to let a fish die as it is to let a dog die. But i did buy a pencill urchin.
Hes in the tank getting to know whats were.
Poor Trigger :( :( :( :( THE STUPID THING IS THE PET STORES HAVE ALL THE TANK CONNECTED
ICK SPREADS TROUGHOUT THE TANKS

They have all the tanks connected?! And, that's a beautiful pair of mandarins. If they ever do successfully have fry, send them to me please :)

Yes, I'm happy that the picture clearly shows the difference between male and female.
Keep in mind though that sometimes a tankmate at the LFS will nip the fin and it may look like a female. Males fight to the death... often both die.

Lharm,
I work in a LFS, and yes I do know that fish are living things, most LFS have their SW system tanks all connected, this way one huge filter can filter the whole system, it is just more cost effective and therefore we can offer a wider selection of fish/corals/inverts
at my LFS our track record is very very good for keeping SW fish, in the year that i've been working there I can remember one SW fish that has died, not counting those who came in sick or dead already, and yes I do know that all LFS keep their fish in tanks that are too small for them, honestly I personally would'nt put a tang in anything smaller than a 180, but that is just impossible for LFSs especially smaller bussinesses to do so because of the cost, sorry to flame on ya, but thats just the way it is and there is'nt much that will change that
