What kind of filter pads do you use?

When I go to the LFS they have these rolls of filters cut to whatever length you want it. They are also sold pre-packaged. I asked the guy at the LFS that it looks like all it is is A/C filter for home air condition units and he told me it was, that he buys them wholesale from an a/c contractor. Seems cheaper to go to a ac guy and buying a roll that can last over a year at a fraction of the cost then buying them at the LFS. Anyone have a say in this if I am right or wrong

I buy 100% polyester quilt batting from the fabric store at about $2.00 a roll. I dont bother with the marked up stuff at the LFS.

Don't use the pad, but use floss. Like reef, I go to the fabric store and buy the Polyester Fiber Fill in large bags.

Fabric store polyester fill.
I was using the foam from the LFS for a long time, switched and haven't noticed any difference except for more money in my pocket.

OH I forgot to mention when you go to the favbric store (if you do) make sure you dont get the fire retardant fill its treated with fire retardant chemicals to make the polyester less flammable. I have no idea if they are dangerous to your tank, so I always get the cheap flammable polyester.

Do not buy colored...that would mean it was dyed...you need it to contain NOTHING

I don't use the brand that reef pictured but the same thing. I use a ball of it on a drip tray from the overflow from chamber 1 to chamber 2 on my 29 biocube. The water flows over a wall than through the floss.

Are you using this in a bag with your return lines?
no I use it in HOB filters when cleaning my tank, or as a temporary catch when spot cleaning I dont run any full time mechanical filtrtation on my tank.
