I have an inline heater but I don't use the inline feature so I can't say if they are better or worse. My heater does seem to give me a steady temp so I am happy. Some folks may say use the two 200w heaters just in case one heater goes bad you will still have one working.
If I would go inline, I would have to buy 2 inline heaters and I am not sure if that would be good. I am already planning on installing a UV sterilizer onto my output hose. If I add 2 heaters to the same hose I am not sure if that would affect my gph for my canister filter. But I want to try to get away from heaters hanging in my tank.

do you have a sump? i place my visi therm inside the sump, its submersible it works great.
No, I have a Filstar 305 canister.
In your tank you could put one in each back corner....the marineland stealth are black and would not look that bad. They also have one with an electronic thermostat too

I read up on them. Are they submersible?

YUP
Shatter-proof submersible aquarium heater with safety shutoff
* Automatically shuts off when heater is out of aquarium water
* Electronic thermostat means stable aquarium water temperatures

So you would advise against inline heaters then?

Thanks. I already have a 250W Marineland Visi-therm that came with the tank. Just looking for something extra since I know this heater is not doing the job.

FYI, I had two visi-therms and had problems with both. The first one died and the second one would never shut off. I use it now when I make my changing water in the cold season. I'm not sure how hot it will get the water because it never shuts off!!
