Umm....I don't really DO anything to keep the water level correct...The mag9.5 is the recommended pump for it. Im actually going to upgrade to a mag12 eventually.
Drop Jeff at Lifereef a line, he is very helpful with any problem you have.

I have a skimmer that uses a powerhead, used off of ---- for $15. I get tons of stuff from it and dont know a reason to get more expensive one. Its a VisiJet or something. Do expensive ones get better gunk???

No joke yo.
Sorry I had to post this pic again of my Ghetto Fabulous DIY skimmer.
Really look hard at those $300 dollar skimmers, what are you paying for? Clear Plastic tubing, pump, fittings.....nothing but a Home Depot trip.
Build your own Ghetto skimmer, no one will see it anyway....;)

Buzz, does your Southbay have the needle wheel impeller?

Do a search for "DIY Skimmer Design"
I posted some stuff on it in the 'Equipment & DIY' forum.
Give it a shot and post a pic !
Kipass4130:
Which pump manufacturer makes those with the needle impeller???
How much $ and what Gal/hr ??
Great design for making little bubbles.

That's the key to the Euro reef skimmer right thar
I've looked at one running and wondered how the heck those bubbles came out so darn small.
Put that bubble factory on most any skimmer and you'll have a champ.
Goes back to the basic principle of a skimmer's production
1. Longer reaction time in water (height of skimmer) = better
2. Greatest amount of bubbles possible to react with = better
This pump takes number 2 above to another level and kicks rear.
I want one !!

Best one I've found is "Marine Showcase" off Arapahoe road, Englewood. Really hidden off the road but it's huge and they aren't completely stupid. Slightly overpriced.
I also go to "Reef gallery" now named "Fish Gallery" off Arapahoe road, Englewood. Overpriced
2nd choice though is "Great Barrier Reef" off Sante Fe.
It's a large warehouse with lots of good coral selection (allthough I don't have anything except xenia). Most realistic prices.

US Aquariums. I think that it is good because the water is first filtered threw a inner chamber of bio balls before going in the skim chamber...I have not seen a hang on with this option
