They closed a HD in my area (Not to say they are slowing nationwide...just sayin'), but I know they are expanding quite a bit abroad...canada, china etc...
what they arekeeping hush hush though is the wholesale plumbing chain that they bought is dragging them into the dirt. the VP who decided to buy it got fired, and they are trying to offload it. the HD Supply chain went from second largest in the nation, to crud.
I used to work at caldor. the year i quit is the year they went out of business... co-ink-i-dink?

Showbiz Pizza
They didnt go out of business..they were bought out and changed the name to Chuck E Cheese
Actually it's the other way around...
"In 1984 the company purchased the assets of Chuck E. Cheese's, after that company declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy. They then proceeded to change the name of the company to Showbiz Pizza Time, Inc. Both restaurants were kept operating as separate entities. After disagreements over a period of years with Creative, Showbiz management decided to go ahead with a restructuring of the restaurants called "Concept Unification". This would consist of renovating all Showbiz animation into Chuck E. Cheese characters, as well as renaming all stores to "Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza".

gm aint looking too good right now.
Jeff Embersits, chief investment officer at Shareholder Value Management and an owner of GM stock, said there's only one thing that can save the company: "The consumer needs to come out of the toilet and somebody needs to start buying cars."
this will win friends and influence people. genius.

Not at all. All this negative press is only further putting the nails into GM's coffin. Now when anyone hear's GM, they think bankruptcy. Not good cars that are better then the competition, that we should consider purchasing.

+1 I miss "Electronics Avenue"... at least that's what they called the electronics section of our store.
Someone else said Home Depot will close soon. I highly doubt it, especially because here in CA, there's like 3 home depot's to every 1 lowes. In fact, I used to work construction for like 2 years and I've gone to home depot countless times. I've never once been to any lowes.

We still have Circle K.
Someone else mentioned TG&Y and Woolworth, we haven't had TG&Y in probably 20 years, and Woolworth in about 10.
