What type of shrimp is best?

I have been feeding my fish a little frozen brine shrimp and some flakes. I was wondering if I could feed them the type of shrimp that I buy to eat. You know, the bag of shrimp that you buy in the grocery store. I assume that it should be the raw type. Any info will be well appreciated.

Relax, most home recipies include raw shrimp from the grocery store. If you want to feed your fish quality foods that will make them healthy and disease resistant I suggest formula foods. Oceanic Systems, formula's one and two (frozen) Prime reef, Julian Sprug's sea veggies, all soaked in fresh garlic, vitachem, selcon, zoe (in rotation).

Overfeeding any type of food will increase niTrates, ammonia etc. The key is not to overfeed.
There are Many people that make their own fish food by blending up together shrimp, scallops, clams, squid etc.
Again, what type of fish are you feeding?

Those fish listed will be fine with the ingredients that were listed too. Alot of folks add vitamins like zoe and also raw garlic to the mix. You will still have to offer the tang some seaweed selects too.

I do feed the tang seaweed. So it is ok if I chop up some real raw shrimp to feed them? I just want to make sure because I do not want to kill them. But I have heard so many different opinions that it is hard to know what is alright and what is bad.

Rel;ax, its part and parcel of home brew foods and is perfectly suitbale to feed fish if they are omnivore or carnivores and ebven som eherbi wil eat shrimp. I htink all critters love shrimp. The junk you do not want to feed is precooked shrimp....
Do your fish a favor, and save money in the long run. Make your own frozen foods. Add in all fresh raw ingredients. Sheet algae (Nori) can also be added. Use a food processor. Add in scallops, muscles, shrimp, squid, crab any nonoily salt water fish.....like sea bass or mullet or flounder, stay away from mackerel etc, add some fresh shrimp including shells heads and all, octopus, some garlic extract and some selcon if ya have it. Process it well so its wellblended and pureeded. It will still have some small chunks and vary size according to what size your fish is. You can also add frozen pack of mysis or krill and even brine shrimps. Pour or spoon into zip lock bags so it fills bag and is about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick when bag is laying flat..and place in freezer. Come feeding time simply break off a chunk and swish it around the tank and let it dissolve off and put particles in the water. do not thaw or rinse, as minut particles benefit filter feeders. Odds are for what it costs it will outlast, do better than store bought flake or pellets or their frozen stuff and in the long run will turn out cheaper. Its suitable for all fish. And it will put less nitrate and phosphates into the tank than any store bought stuff will.

thanks for that great recipe. it sounds a little complex, maybe i'll just start with the shrimp and scallops first.
