I've got quite a few astrea and they do a pretty good job on the glass. Mine do mostly hang out along the water line though.

I also have hermit crabs, so I've given them credit for most of my snail deaths. I haven't seen an astrea snail fall yet, but I'm sure it has happened. I have purchased them several times, but there are some that have been in there 6-9 months I bet.

Yes you can feed them algae sheets. I don't have a problem with them not finding food somewhere in my tank though, never had to feed them. I have Astrea snails too and they are a BIG pain in the ***....But now days they're doing better and not falling over anymore ever since I put in a bunch of rocks. I also have Nassarius and Cerith snails to clean my sandbed, they do a pretty good job, they do help with the glass cleaning too somewhat....I've only lost a Nassarius and a Cerith Snail do to my blue legged hermits. But there's still enough population to clean the stuffs.... :happyfish

Astraea are better at cleaning glass. Cerith are the better of the two snails though IMO because they can clean glass, clean up detritus, and can reproduce in an aquarium.

OK so then i just that in an overall setting i should go with the cerith!
Bang Guy could you tell me if this looks ok? I'm going to make an order hopefully today from SWF.com...im going to order 2 clowns and a clean up crew...
2 percula clowns
10 nassarius snail
10 scarlet hermits
10 cerith snails
...alge and detris isn't over running my tank, but i have some...should this be sufficiant or is it to much...
side note...right now i have a lemonpeel angel that i feed everyday and when i get the new clowns (and eventually one more final fish) i will probably continue the everyday feeding...
