as for equipment i feel the skimmer is the most important item in a tank.
i feel the all following equipment is a must have
Tank<-- duh
RO/DI unit<-- there is a reason most long time hobbiest will tell you they wish they would have started with ro/di
good salt<-- i like tropic marine pro
refractometer<-- the plalsic hydros are crap and a waste of cash
Good skimmer<-- DO NOT skimp here. if that mean waiting to set up your tank so you can save some cash then WAIT. you will be very glad you did
GOOD lighting<-- once again dont skimp
Qt tank
if i dont have all of the aboev i dont think its even worth starting the tank
as for other dry goods
Nice array of nets<-- the nicer plastic fine mesh once are best
High quality mix of food. <--i use dryand frozen and make up my own blend and then refreez it.
lots of 5 gallon buckets<-- fish room dedicated ONLY. dont let the wife steal em lol
water jugs for mixed and fresh water
mag float<-- love these damn things
before all of this be sure to READ READ READ and when you done with that READ SOME MORE! research EVERYTHING BEFORE you buy it. you will be VERY glad you did.
