alright, here we go... i'm surprised they came out this good...
as you can see, the tentacles are out. it is still very green, but there are these white spots...
you can see in the center, how under the tentacles, it's all white... that's the part around the rim that i said was white

and a side shot that shows the base/bottom of the brain

ok, now when i spot fed it, i took a very small chunk of the marine cuisine and put it in a little bit of water in my feeding cup, and then took a turkey baster and slowly squirted it into the area of the tentacles. Was this right? I know that most of the shrimp settled in the mouth area.

I can't tell if it is dying or not? When it starts to die you will definately know. Where you can see the skeleton, the flesh around it will look somewhat brown. When I feed my corals I put it right on their feeder tentacles, isn't that what they are there for!! lol. I make them work for their dinner! lmao. Oh yea, and in the first pic I see fingers, kinda freaky!! lol. I hope everything turns out ok for you!

ugh... well, that didn't help much!
ok, i don't know what the skeleton looks like, but the white looks like it's on top of the green, not underneath... more like that area is just bleached out...

If you look at the pic I posted, looks right above the clowns first stripe and you will see what I am talking about. It almost looks liek a radiator w/ the metal things all lined up lol that's the only think I can think of. I don't think your brain's skeleton is showing. More bleached like you said. But sometimes a brain will have different color variations my wells is green, pink, white among a few colors!!

I feed my green open brain a small piece of squid, silverside, or krill. I poked some holes in a small plastic container to place over the brain when I feed him to keep the shrimp from stealing the food.
I can't tell from the picture, but if the flesh of the brain starts to turn transparent, he is in bad shape and they are pretty hard to save once they start to go downhill.
Just be sure to feed him 3 times a week.
My clowns don't love on my brain too hard. He pretty big (about 10" diameter) so he can take some abuse.

You're lucky your clowns haven't abused your brain too bad!! I mean pretty much all my corals w/o long tentacles are hosted(i.e. crocea clam, candy cane, mushrooms and former red trach). And he did end up killing it.

They split their time between some fuzzy shrooms and the brain. They hang out in the shrooms during the day and the brain at night.

I posted this because it never fails that when someone says that there is a white spot on something that it has to be ick.

I hope you understand that it is just a joke and is not to be taken seriously.

so the whiteness is the brain flesh starting to turn transparent??? i hope he doesn't die!!! what can i do? Should i move him to the top of the tank so he can get a lot of light for the time being? I mean i have 4x96 bulbs, so i figured that'd be plenty to fulfil the "moderate" lighting requirements my research showed that brains need. Do you think i should just take him back? I mean, he was closed up at the LFS, so what should i do???
well, i'm going to bed, so please continue to leave me advice while i slumber.

Sorry, this is a little off-topic,and I have not experience with brains. Is that regular sand in your tank? Maybe it's just the lighting in the pics, but it looks "pearly" like unrefined sugar and I really like it.

I think that your light may not be strong enough. It does seem to be loosing flesh and that is not good. But if you can keep it eatting it will get better.GL
