In the tank or the sump? I got one LED, and one Glass w/suction cup.
And if in the DT, then how high up? close to the top or bottom away from the lights?

i don't even keep one in my tank. every day when i go check the temp i just put a thermometer in and get the reading and take it back out.

I have two stickies. One I have on the front near the top on the right hand side, and the other is on the left side of the tank near the bottom on the side panal.
I want to make sure everything is the same all over with no cool or hot spots.

One in the sump and one in the dt. It's hidden in the DT. In the back. It can be seen and read through the side.

I have one on the far left side of my aquarium. It takes the whole length of the back glass so the button is sticking out of the water
My water turns in a circle in the tank so I am not worried about the right side getting cold

My digital probe is on the back wall, and my glass one is halfway down the left wall...I had on on the right side too...but I took it out to use for water changes

I'm quite proud. I saw that you commented and I made the assumption that your post would be about rectal thermometers. I'm starting to get inside your head now.

I don't use a thermometer... I have an infrared thermal gun and I just shoot the tank once per day in several different places.

+1 on the infrared. i bought one of those digi temp ones with my tank and it was junk always read +2 degrees hotter then what my chiller said so i broke out my infrared one and beamed the water and it matched my chiller.
if you place one in the DT probably mid lvl will give you the more balanced reading, the theroy being the top will be hotter cause the lights closer and the bottom cooler being the farthest from the light, so middle is like the average between the two

how much did that cost?
for my tank i just test the temp when ever i feel because i have three heaters and the temp never goes up or down 1 degree.

I got it for free... My temp doesn't vary much either but it's still a good idea to check. My biggest concern is that a heater will get stuck on and then overheat the tank.

I have one of them too...My husband got it from work...they were getting rid of them for some odd reason and he brought it home thinking I could use it...
