My wife and I were in Las Vegas for our Anniversary. We were walking down the strip and someone at MGM mentioned that World Trade Center was gone. We walked into one of the casinos and saw it all happening on TV.
We we supposed to leave Wednesday and had to wait until Friday before the airports were open.

I was actually on a bus with a bunch of fellow Zookeepers headed to the National Conference of Zoo's and Aquariums in St. Louis. We made a gas stop shortly after the second plane had hit we were at McD's and just got bit's and pieces of info. We got back on the bus where someone had a small radio and we all listened to the account, we were all in shock wondering if we should continue or go back home. We decided to keep going, As we got into the city of St. Louis we saw that they had closed down the area around the Arch, We got to the Conf. It was of course canceled by that time. But they had the News on the Giant Screen they use for conventions, It was unreal they showed the footage on this 20ft tall screen I will never forget it as long as I live. We ended up going to the St. Louis Zoo that day, instead of heading home, I was a bit releaved to have had a distraction that first day, there was plenty of heartache and tears in the following days.

I was in cooking class at skool, principal got on the pa system and said a plane hit the world trade center. I was thinking like a small private plane. Then the announcement came for the second tower, then pentagon. I didnt get the hype till I walked past a classroom that had on the news and saw the plane collide. I just froze. My dad went to GrounD Zero the next day to help out (he was a firefighter) You cannot imagine how much horror he experienced. Some person helping out managed to collect pieces of glass from the buildings and sent them to the volunteers as memorials. Its some pretty thick glass, and when you hold it, at least for me, you get scared.

I was at school supervising the hallway when a co-worker came up to me and told me a plane had flew into the wtc. I was stunned but thought nothing of it. I believe I shrugged my shoulders. She gave me a strange look and told me that two different planes flew into both towers. I immediately knew that it was a terrorist act. I went down to the library and stood transfixed at the scene on the tv. I called my wife at home to make sure she was watching tv and just sat in the library watching for about 45 minutes until my next class. We then spent the rest of the day watching the aftermath.

I was sitting in my history class room in 6th grade, when my teacher got a call from the princple and we turned on the tv ans started watching it then the second plane hit. All I could think about is my 2 cousins 1 that was in the world trade center and the other who was in the part of the pentagon that got hit. Luckly they both made it but were missing for a few days.

I was at work listening to a morning show on the radio. They were joking about something and then it went silent. You could "hear" the look on their faces. They broadcast out of the Empire State Building and watched the plan hit the towers. After listening to them describe what was going on for a little while, I tried to call home but none of the phones in the office worked. Either did anyones cell phone. At that point I left work and headed home. I took the backroads home because I was afraid to see the burning buildings in the NY sky line. I went straight to my parents house and my mother was in the kitchen getting ready for school. She had no idea what happened. As soon as we turned on the TV the first tower fell. Its a day that will never be forgotten. While I was lucky and had no family or friends killed that day, I did know people who were in the buildings that day and know many people who did lose someone. May God bless all the people involved that day and God bless America!

I was in my first year in college. I went to my US History class and my professor said "did everyone hear that a plane hit the WTC?" Thats all she said..Nothing else. I thought it was an accident but as I walked back across campus I could hear every dorm window I walked by had the news on. (very wierd for a college campus) I walked in my room and my roomate just stared at me with a blank face. He lives about 5 minutes from NYC so he was even more shook up than I was.
I also spent the rest of the day talking to my sister on the phone because she was living in D.C. at the time right down the street from the Capitol building. My roomate and I didn't move from our room for the next 3 days we just watched the news all day long.
The next year, 9/11/02 I went with my dad and sister to visit the Pentagon and the opening of the Sept. 11th exhibit/tribute at the Smithsonian. One of the sadest days. It's so important that we defeat these terrorists.
