Which Wood Looks Better?

Oak and Birch each have great cosmetic qualities, but their use depends on the specific situation, such as surrounding conditions. Any pics of the room, the tank, stand being covered, etc.? Generally however, Birch is going to show a very fine grain and be lighter in color/tone. I'm not a big fan of Birch because it's often used/associated with cheap veneers and coverings. Oak is a harder look, will stain darker and have more of a defined character grain and look.

Oak hands down for me. That's what I went with my very simple stand but glad I did as it made a very simple stand look very nice.

Are we talking solid wood or plywood?
How about neither.
I just dont like oak wood in general. It seems everyone has it. However, if solid is what you are talking about and those are the choices due to whatever. I say oak, it is more water resistant and rot durable. IIRC.
Now I agree with the darker color.......in which case I say to use Bubinga.
Sorry, just my .05 worth.

in dark applications (dark stains etc, I go for oak) in lighter applications I would go for birch. since your using a dark cherry stain I would vote oak.
