who thinks i've got too many

ok in my 30g with a skimmer and filter on it. i have 1 yellow tang, 1 blue regal tang, 1 scooter blenny, 2 oscellaris clowns, and 2 purple firefish gobies. who thinks honestly that i'm pushing the limit with fish.

Tangs may do ok in that tank for awhile if theyr very small but they really need a 55+ to do better, some tangs need a larger tank than that. I would say you could get away with what you have in your tank if you watch you water quality very closely. I would take the tangs out hough... :D

I would definitely take out the tangs. They should at least be in a 75 gallon. In a 30 gallon they will become stressed and result in death. Everything else sounds ok though.

Isn't about 10 gallons per fish a good judgement on average? Unless of course you know the species requires lots more room like the tangs.

ok right now the tangs are pretty small and my yellow tang has been with me for about 8 months now and is alive and healthy. i was thinking about getting rid of the yellow tang but there is no way in heck i'm getting rid of the blue one because i went through, excuse my french, but i went through hell to keep that thing alive. and to answer someones question i've never had a problem with ammonia.

a blue tang will get over 10" if it's healthy and happy. Tank size doesn't matter. They may slow in there growth but still will reach full size or stress and die.I would at least have a tank 4'+

if your planning on keeping the regal tang get a bigger tank or your gonna have more problems trying to keep him. your tank is way to small for 1 let alone 2. i have a 75 and only have 1 tang in there and it is one of the smaller tangs (kole tang). the scooter, clowns, and fire fish should be fine in your tank though. as far as size with most fresh water fish the fish grows to the size of the tank with salt that does not apply at all

i know that the blue tang will get that big. don't panic guys i plan on getting a bigger tank. i'm aware of the risks of having a tang in such a small tank, and i know that you really can't stunt a saltwater fishes growth. i was just wondering for example if those tangs were two other fish would ya'll think it's too many.

here we go with the great tang debate again!! i really didn't want to get into this again, but, i must say that i still have my powder blue in the 16 gallon! still eating. still swimming around. never any signs of stress or or medical problems. i suppose i'm one of the lucky ones.

Sometimes I think people post to get a good debate going and not to really get opinions and act in what is the best interest of the species. That is why I have stopped really participating on this board although I occasionally drop in like today.
Again I will fade out but before I do..... We keep fish and we should TRY to keep them in the best aquarium environment possible. Knowing that a fish will get large, needs plenty of swimming space and is all in all happier in a long tank, should drive people to replicate this situation not do the exact opposit. A PB in a 16 gallon is just plain wrong and cruel. Ditto for one or Two tangs in a 30g. I also don't beleive we should be putting fish in tanks knowing they will have to be moved again. Planning s/b based on full grown adult size when purchasing a fish.
We'll there it is again, the gtreat tang debate.... signing off again.

If a fish is healthy it will grow. Any 9-14" fish in a 12-18" tank doesn't make sence. Planning to put a fish in a bigger tank is one thing but keeping it in a small tank I wonder how long it will accualy live? But I guess my Cherub angel =2" must love its 120g which it swims the whole tank. I have larger fish just want to point out angles and tangs need more room. My 120g is to small for my naso and sailfin but I'm plannig a much larger tank also. I have a small naso med, sailfin, cherub, perc clown, neon gobie, manderin. We have the same fish load.

How could you stock your tank so full? I have 4 fish in my 30gal and feel I am pushing the limits. My fish are: Pygmy Angel 2", 6-line Wrasse 1", Yellow Watchman Gobie 1.5" and a Redhead Gobie .75". I must admit I've tried the small tang approach in my 30, but wisened up after a month and took him back. The smaller the fish, the bigger the tank looks. My Pygmy Angel looks like a large Angel in a 120gal tank. Trust me, try smaller fish and you'll enjoy your tank more.

My mother in law had a 25 gal tank. 6 damsels and a trigger and a grouper in her tank and it was rock solid. THAT WAS AMAZING!!! :D

if you want to keep fish to maturaty a 2foot grouper won't cut it in a 29gal. Point is if you keep a small grouper be prepared to take it back or upgrade to a large tank. or why buy it. Not good hobby practice imo.

ooh, i feel the tension. my bad guys i didn't mean to get an argument started. some of you are right it's not really the wisest choice to put a tang in a small tank that is one of the reasons why i plan on getting rid of the yellow one. but very soon i plan on getting a much bigger tank. and right now my blue tang is only about 2 inches long.
