Who won Talledega?

I know you cannot pass under the yellow line, unless you are forced down there. Was Regan forced down there, or was Tony right and he won the race.
I think Regan was forced down there and so he made a legal pass. So I think Regan won the race not Tony.
I know there will be an appeal, but NASCAR rarely ever changes it's mind.

That was pretty bad, I going to have to go with reefraff on that one, if it had been the other way around nascar would have seen it differently.

i know cousin Carl did NOT win the race!!! everyone knows you dont bump draft in a corner... i am really suprised he tried that bs!!!
Ragan was forced down there, but all he is allowed by rule is to maintain his position... T Stew made a good move and won the race...

TS must feel like a boobie for having to have nascar give him the race where he got beat.
This is nascar's earlier position.
Benson wasn't penalized because "if you can see the checkered flag on the last lap, anything goes," according to NASCAR spokesman Owen Kearns.
That was additionally reaffirmed by NASCAR spokesperson Ramsey Poston, who at the time explained that Benson's finish below the line was permissible if a driver racing to the finish can actually see the checkered flag.

that was 07 this is now... Regan passed below the yellow and he finished below the yellow as well...
besides that is a yahoo article... why didnt you go right to the horses mouth???
At Sunday's drivers' meeting, NASCAR reiterated the rule about passing under the yellow line and provided the same information to all drivers and crew chiefs in a hand out, as it has done in past Daytona and Talladega races.
The verbatim language is ...
This is your warning: race above the yellow line. If, in NASCAR's judgment, you go below the yellow line to improve your position, you will be black-flagged. If in NASCAR's judgment you force someone below the yellow line (in an effort to stop him from passing you), you may be black-flagged.
"During the last lap of [Sunday's] race at Talladega Superspeedway the driver of the No. 01 violated NASCAR policy by driving under the yellow line to improve his position
," NASCAR president Mike Helton said. "In NASCAR's opinion he was not forced below the yellow line. NASCAR correctly took immediate action to enforce the policy by penalizing the No. 01 and scoring the No. 20 as the race winner.
Helton concluded by saying ...
"Since the end of the race there has been some confusion as to what is allowable during the last lap at Daytona and Talladega. To be clear, as we go forward, there will be no passing under the yellow line at any time during NASCAR races at Daytona or Talladega, period. This includes any passing below the yellow line near the start/finish line on the final lap."

Don't get me wrong, I like Tony, I think he is a great driver. I'm happy he'd won, he hasn't won all year. And I HATE DEI because of who runs it and what she did to Jr. But even using that statement, tony definately used the bottom yellow line as a block (imo) deserving the black flag.
I've never seen anything to the contrary before the if you see the checkers anything goes. Until after the fact.

you CAN use it to block... the person going below the yellow gets the black flag not the that "forces" them to go below it...

Agreed, Regan just should have spun the crapyota and won the race, must easier.
Will definitely be good to have Tony back on the good guys in 09!

Exactly, DEI hater too but fair is fair. I have seen nothing indicating NASCAR changed any rule from last year. What this means is the next time a driver goes low to block a pass the guy behind is just going to turn him, thats a really good idea.
And NASCAR is on record telling drivers they too are subject to penalty if they use the yellow line to block. Whether or not Stewart used the line to block isn't a matter of opinion. He flat out said he did. Thats why I like Stewart, he doesn't pull punches or lay blame.
Mark my words, if it was one of NASCAR's chosen few making the pass it would stand and it will in the future.

Well if that happens next time, I guarantee Tony will be into the wall. Because tony dove down, and smith got out of the way. Next time he'll just stay there. And the 3rd big one would have been right there.
I guess you have to be on your roof to be "forced down"

Could you imagine what would have happened if it was Gordon or Kyle Bush behind Stewart? They wouldn't have needed an excuse to turn him

Yeah, it is my contention that Regan was forced below the yellow line, so the pass counts. This just means that next year the leader will get turned and the whole field wiped out. Regan even said that right after he got out of the car, that he went below the yellow line to not turn Tony.
