i just got three new fish last night and put them in my qt tank. i havent had anything in this tank for over a month and a half. i just ghost feed, theres a couple of hermits and a turbo in it. anyway i put the blue LEDS in so i could watch them(it was 2am) alittle bit before i want to bed and i could see tiny jellyfish every where!! no idea where they came from. but will they sting my new fish is there something i can do to get rid of them quickly?

very small. a little bigger than the end of a stickpin. i've dealt w/ ich, flatworms, and red bugs, never expected hydroids in a 2 year old tank.

Are you sure they are hydroids and not tiny brittles stars? My tank went through a period of time without fish and I had tiny brittle stars coming out of everywhere in the tank! I would see these tiny things on my glass, and they did resemble hydroids but I didnt think that that was actually a possibility. Could have been wrong, but I figured they were related to all of the brittle stars in the tank. What kind of substrate do you have in the tank? I had crushed coral at that time and when I fed the tank you would see all of the stars and copepods coming out of the substrate and rock to feed. Amazing how much those things accumilate without fish in the tank.

Your Jellyfish are a normal part of a 'pod bloom. Have you been noticing more Copepods or Amphipods lately? Or have you been feeding a Copepod based food like Cyclop-Eeze? This can fuel Hydroids enough to get them producing Medusa at a good rate, something like 2 or 3 Medusa per Hydroid per day if they are given enough food.
