can anyone tell me what these are? i think the top one is some type of coral, & the bottom one is an anemone of some sort. should i leave them be? or should I get rid of them?
I plan on adding some corals once the tank is cycled & i dont want them to intefere....

The anemone in the lower left of the pic is an "aiptasia" These guys aren't a welcome addition to tanks, they can spread like wild and damage(sting) your other corals. The easiest way to kill them is injecting them with a strong Kalkwasser solution. I have also used Kent's turbo calcium with great success. I would get rid of it ASAP. HTH

when you say inject, how do you mean? add the solution to the water? or actually inject them?

For the "aiptasia"...mix some pickling lime with water and inject the paste directly into the center of the pest...it'll get rid of 'em.
The other critter looks like a type of ricordia maybe...can't tell for sure but it looks like ricordia.

But....after looking again.... skilos1 may be correct ....which would without a doubt be the very first time I've ever in my life been wrong...after 47 years I may possibly have made my first mistake.:(
Shhhhhh...don't tell anybody.;)
Seriously...skilos may be right....both can be classed as pests.

I use a syringe to get it inside the critter. its more of a controled thing than hat a turkey baster would be.
I use kalk just thin enough to go into the syringe and the inject it.
if it were me I would let the top one grow a little bit to make sure that it is a manjano anemone. there are many things that look like one another and sometimes is hard to tell what they are.
here is a pic of a manjano that I have in my tank. I leave it grow and nuke the offspringe when they show up.

just hot water injection worked fine for me
and a few peppermint shrimp additions to eat the remaing that i missed
all gone now
BLASTED

Interesting to see a Anemonea sp. next to Aiptasia sp. (My opinion). I wonder if they would battle eat other to the death??

I had one that walked over the top of an apista and both were fine no damage the lived in touching range of each other for a long time until I nuke them both.

Ok, I took 2 of the three rocks out & blasted them under hot water & took a new tooth brush & brushed the little

[hr]
off. So far, those 2 are clean (except 1 little bugger I missed). My brittlestar is in the 3rd rock so I cant blast it with hot water yet, but as soon as he gets out of there, im blasting that rock as well.

you do relize that blasting it with hot frsh water is killing everything that is living in the rock including the bacteria.
the best way is a syrigne and inject them.

plus scrubbing them with a tooth brush is more of a helper to them, cause any little bit that remains and winds up back in th etank will likely grow into a new one, so you could be in for some serious trouble!
good luck
