Why did this happen????

I'm so upset, so i wake up this morning and I go to feed my fish and i'm watching my 2 clowns eat and I notice that I don't see my Pseudo. Normally he darts out of the rock when the food hits the water. So I look and I look and there he is in a cave, laying on his side with three hermit crabs on top of him. I have no clue what happened. Did they ambush him overnight?
Can anyone offer me some insight. I removed him immediately and then checked my numbers and here is what I got:
Ph 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 15

Could just be an unhealthy fish (for any number reasons water related or not) -- the hermit crabs are just doing what they do as far as cleaning up the mess. They didn't kill your fish but will eat any dead fish they come across.
Other fish look healthy? If they do I would just keep an eye on your water parameters and chalk it up to an unhealthy fish.
If you wanted to get more technical you could test a ton of other water parameters (temp, salinity being easier ones) but from what you posted your definately in safe fish range.
Diet they are being fed can play a role -- what do you feed? How often?
How long have you had the fish? etc
Sometimes there really isn't a reason though.

yeah it just sucks. I feed them formula One and brine shrimp and I've had him for a few months. He seemed healthy and happy last night right before i went to bed and the other fish are swimming around happy. So hopefully he will be my only casualty lol

AHHHHHH now i see 3 of my hermit crabs tearing up a snail!!! There is something not right about these guys!

Hermits will go after a snail to steal there shell...it's a pain, but perfectly normal.

Just an FYI, brine has very little nutritional value.

They will also eat a dead one.
Ivycharlaine, you need to test your water. Just to be sure you don't have a water quality issue causing an increase in the mortality rate.
