I have read several threads where people say they rinse the food. What does it achieve and what do you rinse it with? Tank water?RODI? I've just been thawing it in tank water and throwing it in. I am missing something? Thanks

Many commercially prepared frozen fish food is covered with a preservative. Typically a nitrate derivative. Rinsing will remove a lot of the preservative.
I soak my food in tank water and a little garlic supplement. This helps it sink faster...especially flake. the fish I have are mostly bottom dwellers, so that's why I do it.

Never knew that Bang .... but honestly, do you think it's necessary?
Bang Guy, would you also be rinsing away some of the vitamins and other good stuff that was added to the food to make frozen food more nutritous in the first place? Is it worth it to rinse the food first?
Rinsing wont hurt the food. Anything that gets removed by rinsing would get removed once it hits the water anyway. I just thaw all my frozen food in a cup of tank water and then just dump it right in.
