Why do you Love Clams?

I'm just curious, because it seems like so many hobbyists aspire to have them, and, frankly, I don't see the big deal. Yes, some are very colorful, but what exactly is the attraction?
Clam owners? Wannabe clam owners? I am puzzled.

Correct me if i am wrong but to me the saltwater hobby is all about having our own little piece of the ocean. i find clams fantastic because of the colouration they have but i also feel that once i have one of these, my tank will be complete and untill that point i will always want one.
but that could just be me. :D

Mark! I like the little buggers. :D
I'm not complaining about clam lovers, but aside from the nice coloration, what is the attraction? Just curious is all, not faulting anyone. Admittedly I know nothing about them. Perhaps there was some fascinating aspect to them that I am clueless about.

I had to have one and it is my favorite thing in my tank!! The colors are so pretty and they are easy to keep. Carrie

The coloration and pattern on the clam is what draws me to it. And for whatever reason I seem to strive to keep one some day. My girlfriend, who is puzzled by my tank obession, is even drawn to them. Its like something from a trippy cartoon and Lord of the Rings. Just seems make believe.

I agree, clams have beautiful coloration. No arguement, but I was wondering if there was something more to the love of them, or is it just their beauty?
Those are awesome clams, admittedly.

Beth, I too am puzzled with some hobbiest's love for clams. Never wanted one myself, despite the intense colorations. Do they ever.. really move? Ive only seen a handful at my lfs, so I honestly dont know.

They are one of the most colorful items for a reef and I think most people who got into the hobby is because of beautiful colors that these creatures have. And plus when your in this hobby you like to collect all kinds of corals they have to offer. Its like how kids love pokeymon hehee gotta have each and one of them.

Dog, I know you posted on another thread about the hole in that clam....but could you say why there is a hole there?
It does have gorgeous color, but, draven, that has kinda been my view as well.

I was primarily interested in clams for the coloration and for the diversity they provide to a reef. they do move from time to time...basically open and close...but they can re-locate a bit also. The coloration is very unique.....almost hypnotic. Plus....it is a species not all hobbyists can properly keep....and I wanted to set my reef off from most others. so I guess the challenge of keeping them appealed to me....
