Ok you can see the small peice that was ripped from the colony and stayed on the rock. (circled)
That hermit crab is headed over there to verify, let's wait on his analysis since he has the best view...

I still say Clavularia ( Briareum ) viridis Green Star Polyps.
"An encrusting purple base with numerous polyps extending from it. Each polyp is tall, narrow and has tenticles radiating from it. As the base, or mat, spreads new polyps extend from it."

OMG so your telling me that when the xenia died the green stars were able to grow over? And a few seeds were left of the xenia to grow on the rock? Wooooooooow im amazed ya'll
So I have never had GSPs before. I turned all the moving equipment off to see if they pulse and some of the hands will close slowly. Do they do that like xenai?

Both Xenia and GSP are invasive and damn near impossible to kill.. it can stay on the rock and when the conditions are right pop back up.. One might have been choking the other out and now it found a happy medium..

No...Xenia will pulsate (open close) constantly. This may close a little when something passes by, or lights go down, but not pulsate like xenia. And the more it grows it can get long arms and flow like a field of green grass....very pretty.

I apologize for assuming ya'll were wrong I could never imagine that another coral would just take over like that. What is weird is that when the xenia died the little pock marks where the arms come out were still there and that is where the green arms started to grow. Its so weird. IM IN DENIAL IM IN DENIAL
I bet it would look cool to place next to my pink and purple star polyps! So why doesnt this one have the white dots in the middle of the hands

What is really freaky is that when I pulled the structure away from the rock the arms that were left were green and then one day I looked and they were the pink pulsing arms. I wonder if its possible that the tissues were iner twined or something and one or the other takes over

Wouldn't it be neat if they somehow became a mixed breed....

Yeah Maybe not but look at all the names below and people are for the most part talking about the same thing. Common names can be confusing to people. I just like to get the scientific names out there so we know we are talking about the same thing.

It would be interesting to know if anyone else had this happen before. Its crazy how the GSP could be dormate for so long and then pop up or change to xenia.

Ok so I moved the xenia....oops I mean GSP next to the pink star polyps so they can grow together. I am going to get some glue and glue the green ones up a little further.
