why no cfl light bulbs?

im just curious why these dont exist and this is the biggest source of people who know about lighting i can find. why cant you find any 3 setting cfl light bulbs. like the ones you get in reading lamps, for 50, 100, and 150 watts. im just curious if theres something about them that makes it not work/expensive.

go to your local home improvement store.
Handle bulbs carefully as they contain Hg. Dispose of properly.

incadescent light bulbs fire a current through a filament, which is what causes illumination.
in a flourescent bulb, i believe electricty is fired through the vapor gas that is inside the bulb, which causes illumination.
thats why you cannot dim flourescent bulbs.

My IceCap ballast will dim Flourescent bulbs. This includes CF, VHO, T5, and NO.
That's a lot to pay for a desk lamp though.

They don't dim T5 or T6 lamps, that was a 300.00 experiment gone bad

Hmmm, both of those sizes worked for me.

If you've figured out a way to make a 660 dim either of those two sizes of lamps you should get in touch with Chris Conte at Ice Cap, they have been trying to come up with a way to make them work. I had T6 VHO's which I was hoping would work because they have the same wattage and legth as the standard T12 VHO's. I could dim them to about 85% and the evil spirits came out to play, thats about where the T5's go weird too.

Ahhh, I haven't tried T6 VHO. Compact Flourescent are T6 sized (or are they T8?), I thought that's what you meant.
