Why

This is the kind of thing that makes large snake owners everywhere look bad.
My heart goes out to the family.
It doesnt really matter what charges they file, or even what punishment they impose on the owner....the horror already took place and nothing will bring back the little one.
So sad in so many ways.

I think this goes under the category of stories I wish I had never read.
Does anyone else find it strange that the snake "broke out" of its cage and just happened to wonder in to the little girl's room? You don't think that the snake was kept in the kid's room do you? The story just seems a little strange to me.

I read this today and felt sick. I agree shogun. We definitely have some of the dumbest idiots in the nation living in Florida. I would be frightened to know what the average IQ of our state is when I look around me.

not all of us, but there are a lot of stupid butt people here. Poor baby died a terrible way.
You kinda wonder why no one heard anything. Wouldnt the baby cry, or was her mother too stoned to notice

Well of course not "us" Teresa. I mean the other people in Florida.

It is very sad. I really can't think about it too much or I get too upset.

It's right up there with "meth makers burn down house killing all 3 kids" type of story. Just LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of idiots out there unfortunately.

Teresa, the unfortunate part of your question's answer is the method of death.
If she could dry, she could still breath........
Reading more and watching the video from several other spots just make me furious. The whole blanket over the tank as a cover. The statement that they KNEW it was able to escape from it's enclosure, AND HAD ALREADY DONE SO THAT SAME NIGHT makes me just boil. Sorry if I am just ranting.

Well sucks to know where some people's priorities are. Just all too common nowadays though.

Most constrictors, when going for prey, go for the head first in order to immobilize their prey and prevent it from fighting back. I know it paints a horrible picture, but this is most likely why no one heard anything.

Snakes are silent killers. The victim can't cry out while being strangled. Snakes also go to the warmest place, they don't have their own body heat.
Snakes are also escape artists. All they do besides sleep and eat is test the cage till they find a way out. One time of not latching it down good and it is free at last.
I doubt the owners ever considered the baby was in any danger. If it was a family pet the child may have let the snake out and tried to sneak the "pet" into bed with her. My grandchild killed a beta fish that way.
It is still the saddest story I have read in a long time.

Family definatley deserves to be charged. Disgusting.....Charge ALL of them.
I would be banned for sharing my feelings about a person that brings this upon his own children out of just pure stupidity/laziness.
Watching the video makes it even more disgusting. I agree with you 100%. The whole blanket for a lid thing was by far the worst part. I just pray that the snake killed the baby before she realized what was happening. How horrible for her.
