Oh yes if you have a wierd critter, PM Cranberry...those guys are just all around smart people.

If shes not an expert at this..... I highly suggest a bigger tank... 60 gallon.... The water perimeters stay better.. I run 2 filters at each end... covered in mesh for protection... high turn over water rate even tough most say low flow.. haha.. that just doesnt work well for their health.... I currently have 8 seahorses. .... If you care to know what else is in the tank....I'm happy to share... Ive had grand results with seahorses.. one more note.. I only get mine from Hawaii....

I dunno about "experts"...never cared for that word. We do know a thing or two about SH too, considering that's how we met and we used to have several until recently.
IME, we've kept pairs in 20XT (18T) setups (basically two 10 gals on top of each other sizewise), but they require a LOT more attention in that size setup. We also run live macro in our setups, esp SH setups, which helps a lot.
Getting good, TRUE CB stock is first and foremost (go with a breeder or hobbyist breeder as your source) and keeping them at a proper temp (< 74*F for tropicals) are probably the two most important ingredients for success.

Seriously. Tanks don't like to be empty. They want to be filled. They need to contain something...anything. I firmly believe this to be the case, because only one of my tanks ever left my hands without being used personally. Somehow, some way, they always end up being filled.

I know what you mean - I just brought my deck pond goldfish into my house, I bought a used 120 - I have to tell you it looks amazing even for goldfish - I have a 40 gallon sump with a pump going about 600 GPH and the water is sparkling - I am already thinking FOWLR - but I always talk about getting another SW tank and hasn't been happening.

did i just read one of our resident aquarists stated a 20 tall would be fine for that stock list? a mandarin? really? starve to death in 3 months.

Umm dont see that statment anywhere. Could you point it out.
I think most of us have said a 20 tall isnt really big enough for a single pair of horses let alone a mandarin.

I did say that I've kept single pairs of SH in a 20XT (18T), but it takes more work than a more properly sized tank. I wouldn't keep a mandy in a 20 gal on a bet...even one that eats prepared foods, because they constantly browse the rock for between meal snax.

Greg, did you read the articles in this recent CORAL? Just curious on your thoughts. The method described for weaning wild Mandarins is, ironically, almost exactly how I weaned my wild seahorse.

I haven't read it but we probably have the issue (Renee has/had a subscription). Yes, the protocol is almost exactly the same as SH...try to trick them into trying it. Come to think of it, it's like that with kids too...

No kids (yet), but I can see how that might work! I remember Calvin's mom telling him dinner was monkey brains and such, and he dove right in.
CORAL had some interesting info, but I wish it could have been prefaced by a disclaimer: "This is written by an advanced hobbyist and should NOT be tried by a beginner..." But the articles were very informative.
