if you don't want to guess and want to keep anything save up a couple hundred more and get a halide fixture you will be able to keep anything you want.

I know a few people that have successful SPS reefs using only VHOs.
A clam will attach itself and stay put if it likes where you place it....

I am old school, nothing worse than limits on what can be moved where.
I would opt for MH in the first place, but I also love the shimmer effect unique to MH.

I say no way.
On my 180 I've got 4 250wt HQI, 2 72inch VHO super actinic, and 4 48 inch VHOs (2 daylight, 2 actinic)
I can tell ya there is no comparison with the Halides when they kick on.
I also recently had 2 halides go out. Within a week my BTA was "reaching" for light by stretching out everyday.
You might be ok and have corals survive (especially captive bred ones) but expecting that lighting to be 100% effective for light intensive corals is not a good idea imho.

You forget that Thomas712 kept his bubble tip anemone "farm" under VHOs for a long time......
Water quality will make more of a difference in the health on the anemone.

I think wild or captive bred species will be the biggest factor. Also, BTA's are not the highest light requiring species.
Water quality is important, but the shock of lower light to coral's photosynthetic algae will be a bigger factor, imo.

I need to make the desicion with with of these i will be able to keep more species. I would want MH but im only 13 so this whole project is funded by my dad and he said 250 max. (HE IS SO UNDERSTANDING AND has bought me most of the stuff i need with out complaints,
) WHICH SYSTEM DO U THINK IS BETER LET ME NOW

I'm interested to know as well Eugenez...as I am in a similar situation as yourself.
I am very interested in the Nova Extreme T-5 with Lunar lights as well.
Hopefully 216 watts of T-5 is enough for a 55g tank to house medium light coral....
