Will coralline algae grow on Wall Hammer skeleton?

I noticed that one side of my wall hammer is brown, and the other side is like a splotchy white. The side that has the splotchy white is close to the glass. That glass has started to explode with coralline algae growth (same color and blotches). I am pretty sure it is coralline algae, but just wanted a second opinion. This is the best photos I could get with my iPhone.

Also, in the second photo, you might can see the circle thing on the skeleton that is about the size of a half dollar. (I know it's hard to see) Is it possibly new growth? If you get close to it, (like with a turkey baster) it sinks back into the skeleton. I just didn't know exactly how these grew. (I know they can grow in zig zags and all crazy ways) I can crank the white lights on and try to get a better photo if I need to.

Thanks. I don't think that it is harmful, because the coral seems to be really healthy. Everything I've read says wall hammers grow in crazy ways, but are slow growers. I've been watching the spot for 4 months. Maybe one day flesh will pop out.
