A clam will not do well under pc's....wait until you get the metal halides, and then that tank has to be established too...

Ummm.... my deresa did very well under PCs. Lived for years and grew to be huge. We lost him in a move. He got left in a bucket without a heater or flow.... for a few days :-( We also have a blue spot deresa in a JBJ 24g with standard lights.

I switched one over to a tank with MHs and had to hide it on the bottom for it to adjust. When I sheltered it, it got happy.

+1
I had a maximus clam under 2 X 65W PC lights but I put it up on top …250w should be plenty.

This from reef corner.
Natural Environment:
Indo-Pacific in shallow, wave protected, clear water areas as a juvenile. T. derasa loses its byssus gland as an adult when it reaches about 12" in length and moves to deeper waters apparently via water currents and lives freely on the substrate in lagoons. T. derasa clams in the hobby are all captive bred.
I am with Bob here, go ahead and give it a try. Know though that T. deresa is one of the largest of the giant clams and will get big fairly quickly with the correct water conditions.

I have a 55 gal, with 2 T5 and 2 VHO, all 4 bulbs are 4 foot in lenght. I was always told to keep a clam you need the intensity of MH, I'm going to pick up a clam to try my luck with my lighting combo this weeek. I will post my results as they happen. I meant to go in today, but warm weather in Ohio meant I had to turn my house into Clark Griswalds with all the xmas lights...LOL....
