I do not have wisdom teeth...as in never have and never will. How about you guys? Who has had them and how many did you have?

Feel free to make it a contest of who had the worst or best experience.

My top wisdm teeth would come up then go back in and it was very painful...So te dentist pulled them. After I healed he wanted to pull the bottom ones, I askd why, they did't hurt. He insisted I didn't need them. i dion't let him, I still have them.

Now I'm older and the big tooth in the center of the upper on both sides had to be pulled, if I didn't have my wisdom teeth to chew with I would be in trouble.

God didn't give us extra parts, I don't care what doctors say..

I got all 4. The bottom two were impacted. I had an emergency root canal done on another tooth and the dentist talked me into pulling those on the right side as she thought they could be part of my problem. Not a happy experience at all. The dentist was literally on my chest, trying to pull the top one out, ended up slipping and cracked one of my front teeth. That ended up with a crown. Needless to say, I still have the other two.

Tell that to your appendix

Still have my top 2, my bottom 2 are impacted. Dentist see's no reason to pull them if they aren't bothering me....I'm on his side.

Just because a doctor has no idea WHY God gave us a certain part does not mean you have an extra part. It means we don't know. Read the following...

Drawing upon a series of observations and experiments, Duke University Medical Center investigators postulate that the beneficial bacteria in the appendix that aid digestion can ride out a bout of diarrhea that completely evacuates the intestines and emerge afterwards to repopulate the gut.
"While there is no smoking gun, the abundance of circumstantial evidence makes a strong case for the role of the appendix as a place where the good bacteria can live safe and undisturbed until they are needed," said William Parker, Ph.D., assistant professor of experimental surgery, who conducted the analysis in collaboration with R. Randal Bollinger, M.D., Ph.D., Duke professor emeritus in general surgery.

Had one of my bottom ones removed a few years ago. Was a worse overall experience than surgery I had on 3 herniated disks in my back.

I had all four of mine removed at once with only novacaine, never swelled up and drove myself home afterwards and went to work that evening. One ended up with "dry socket", that sucked, but I'm a flute player and didn't wait long enough before I started playing, so I can't really blame that on anyone but my own stupidity. I'm glad I didn't have a horrible experience like most people have.

I had braces put on when I was 8. At 12 the orthodontist said I had a 50/50 chance at keeping all my wisdom teeth. to "help" he inserted brass rods under the roots of all 4 teeth. At every braces adjustment (once every other month i believe), he would grab a pair of plyers and put his foot on my chest and pull on the brass rods to "help" allign the teeth to come in straight. At 18 I had my braces taken off, on my birthday no less, and the orthodontist said that the wisdom teeth should be just fine. "wear your retainer for the next year or 2 and you should be all right!"

Exactly 4 months later at my dentist appointment the dentist said that all 4 had to come out. They put me under and pulled all 4. When I came to I wasnt in pain, but woozy and my mom drove me home. I missed about 2 days of school with swelling that wouldnt go down. (ok, so I got up and left for school but somehow never made it there, LOL) I was smoking then and never got dry socket on any of the 4. Since then, cavitys and weak teeth have taken their toll on my mouth, I am now short all 4 12 year molars, a 6 year molar, and an incisor. At the rate my teeth are falling apart, I will have to get a full set of dentures by the time I turn 40.

So, for all you kiddies out there:

Weak teeth or not, stop drinking so much soda. It will rot your teeth right out of your head.

I had all 4 removed when I was 9, pretty much one of my lowest of lows. They attempted to put me under, but only got about 3/4 of the way. The room of spinning so bad and all that weird equipment in the room didn't help, I eventually puked on myself. Gave me a local and continued. I could feel the pop of each tooth, but no pain. I bled for the next several hours, and only had soft food for the next few days.

Okay IMO you have won the horror story of the wisdom teeth award. The money spent by your parents to let them fall out of your head at 40...they also should get an award.

My mother brushes each tooth and if she looses count she starts all over again. LOL..When she is getting ready to go someplace and says she has to brush her teeth first...I watch TV till she comes out to go. She is 73 years old and has all her natural teeth but one that was pulled last year. She went to 5 dfferent dentists before she would really believe she had to have it pulled.

It isn't the soda that makes you loose your teeth, its the care you take of them. I'm over 50 and beside the two wisdom teeth my dentist thought I didn't need....I have had two teeth pulled, the same one on both sides. I am not as good as my mom at brushing, I don't have that kind of patients...but I do try.

yea, braces for 10 years and i had to have glasses when I was 6. To top it all off, I was the fat kid in class. Needless to say my childhood was ... ahem ... awesome.

I brush my teeth regularly and take good care of them. I have weak teeth, it runs in the family as me mum has dentures now. The soda I drank was way too much. I had all the typical problems of soda, cavitites between teeth. I also have done research and the cement they used to put the braces on my teeth weakened the enamil of my teeth. So combine bad cement + all the soda = horrid teeth. At this point, I am looking forward to when they all fall out and I can get dentures.

And yea, me mum is pissed that she spent $ on braces just to have them fall out. BUT, if I remember correctly, due to her insurance she had at the time, she had to pay for 2 years of the care and the remaining 8 years was covered at no cost to her. That just might be why I had them for so long. There was no charge to me mum, the orthodontist was getting paid, who really wanted out of that money train?
