I had braces put on when I was 8. At 12 the orthodontist said I had a 50/50 chance at keeping all my wisdom teeth. to "help" he inserted brass rods under the roots of all 4 teeth. At every braces adjustment (once every other month i believe), he would grab a pair of plyers and put his foot on my chest and pull on the brass rods to "help" allign the teeth to come in straight. At 18 I had my braces taken off, on my birthday no less, and the orthodontist said that the wisdom teeth should be just fine. "wear your retainer for the next year or 2 and you should be all right!"
Exactly 4 months later at my dentist appointment the dentist said that all 4 had to come out. They put me under and pulled all 4. When I came to I wasnt in pain, but woozy and my mom drove me home. I missed about 2 days of school with swelling that wouldnt go down. (ok, so I got up and left for school but somehow never made it there, LOL) I was smoking then and never got dry socket on any of the 4. Since then, cavitys and weak teeth have taken their toll on my mouth, I am now short all 4 12 year molars, a 6 year molar, and an incisor. At the rate my teeth are falling apart, I will have to get a full set of dentures by the time I turn 40.
So, for all you kiddies out there:
Weak teeth or not, stop drinking so much soda. It will rot your teeth right out of your head.
Okay IMO you have won the horror story of the wisdom teeth award. The money spent by your parents to let them fall out of your head at 40...they also should get an award.
My mother brushes each tooth and if she looses count she starts all over again. LOL..When she is getting ready to go someplace and says she has to brush her teeth first...I watch TV till she comes out to go. She is 73 years old and has all her natural teeth but one that was pulled last year. She went to 5 dfferent dentists before she would really believe she had to have it pulled.
It isn't the soda that makes you loose your teeth, its the care you take of them. I'm over 50 and beside the two wisdom teeth my dentist thought I didn't need....I have had two teeth pulled, the same one on both sides. I am not as good as my mom at brushing, I don't have that kind of patients...but I do try.
