Carshark on my Fish Only set up is it horrible to use tap water that gets filtered directly from a regular water filter, the type you but at home depot, it mainly removed chlorine. Or is a reverse Osmosis unit a must? I got one like a month ago and it is slow as hell.

you said you got a ro last month? or you got one of those filtration things that mount to your faucett? if you own a house a RO unit is definitely a must. i dont have one installed because i live in a condo so i go to the grocery store once a week and fill up my jugs...once i buy a house ill install an RO, they are a must. tap water even filtered through those devices arent really effective in removing all of the contaminants. you should be using some sort of conditoner, I would recommend "Prime" made by seachem, or AmQuel. ive just seen futures of tanks, and algae will or can be a continuous problem, when using tap water, even conditioned tap water , because the conditioner does not remove trace minerals which can lead to high phosphate levels etc etc. which algae feeds on....

I got the ro a month ago but it is slow, so once in a while if I do not have prepared water I will add 3 gallons of filtered tap water because of evaporation. I think I am going to make a top system using plastic 29 gallon hamper and float valve. Originaly I had a different more complex idea that I posted. But I feel safer with just not using any electric equipment.

yes an auto top off system is great, but if it is a low gpd producer you could always go to your local grocer. they have RO water there....just in case like you said. I would really refrain from using tap water, conditioned or not..

The only way to ensure long term success in that tank, IMO, is to get rid of some of the livestock. Trade them into an LFS or something. But the tank is far too overstocked
1 Humu Humu Trigger about 6 inches big, a Sohal Tang about 4 in, 2 Yellow Tangs 4 in, a 3 in Panther Grouper, a 6 in Lion, and a harmless 7 in Porcupine Puffer
Does this include what you added or what you had before you added more?
A standard 90g is a 4 foot tank. For aggressives I would say a stocking list might include the humu, the puffer and maybe a tang and lion. But triggers and lions can be tricky. All those fish get very large, and many are messy dirty eaters. I hope the filtration is top of the line.
Adding 5 fish at once, depending on the tank, filtration, age, etc...and most importantly the fish...is often a disaster waiting to happen. But even if not, I would strongly discourage you from continuing with that many fish, if you really want to succeed and keep healthy fish that is.
As an aside, I do not care for people calling anyone else an idiot. I do not feel that people should jump on others, though I do wish that people would take sound advice when it comes to caring for fish. Most people here are very passionate about things when they see possible harm to fish, and want to prevent mistakes they may have made from happening again. That is why they spend time here, answering many posts. I would like to thank carshark for explaining his point of view in this thread, and where his passion comes from, just to calm things down.

What type of lighting do you use? filter? skimmer? All of those are necessary for a scuba diver. You may want to consider a mermaid if you don't have the funds to get adequate lighting. Mermaids require less lighting but can still be entertaining

and typically there isnt a need to have a clean up crew, they usually clean up after themselves. and who knows you may get lucky and get a lobster to host it!!!...

as a side note, be weary of keeping clams around they like to decorate themselves with them.

When I add fish the Humu Humu pics on them for a day and then leave them alone. No the Lion is hunting but he is slow and wont succeed, the main problem is the Sohal Tang. Does anyone know a way that I can come them all down they are swimming so fast that when they hit the tank glass it is real loud? Please help I don't want fish fleash all over the place.
I would just get rid of the Sohal Tang and keep everything else for now. It will take months before the other fish begin to grow, maybe even a year. Then you can upgrade to another tank or get rid of 1 or 2 fish. Good luck.

If good advice is just blown off then that person should not post anymore ignorant questions. Saying someone else is beside them and that person is suggesting way out there things then there is clearly a problem.
I don't answer questions on here to belittle anyone or to judge them; but when again sound advice is given and then in defense that person that is wrong gets beligerant and acts like a child so be it.
Mods should close down the threads before it goes this far.
Obviously we are dealing with someone that thinks this is a joke/doesn't care and or is an inmature child.
I read threads on here to learn and to pass on my little knowledge and over 15 years experience to those that are just beginning.
If the research was not done prior to adding so many fish and then such a defensive posture is taken up................so be it. May all your fish die and hopefully the gene pool ends there!

Sump in basement really makes no difference in swimming room in the 75! You will just have mega fish swimming in clean/cramped waters. Ha!

Beth Can You Please Advise On These Diseases
My Yellow tangs have balck ich as we established last week which I am currentley going to satrt treating tomorrow when I start the QT. But my porcupine puffer also has some sort of disease, you can see some of his flesh (the skin is open) his fins are also pretty shreaded up. Here is a picture look at his eye area. I got him 6 weeks ago and since then I have never seen him eat! I also think he might be blind because he always gets stuck between ornaments that he should easliy be able to avoid, he then gets stressed and puffs up, thats pretty cool to watch I guess.
Tank is a 90 gallon fish only tank
wet dry set up
Salinity = 1020
PH = 8.3
Nitirites = 0
Ammonia = 0
Nitrates = 0
And you put new fish in a tank with sick fish Man!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a ludicrous answer.
Obviously having a sump in your basement will have an effect on the number of fish you can have. The problem you're not explaining to him is that it's the spacial dimensions, and not the volume of water, that most larger fish have an issue with.
If you have a 200 gallon in your basement, go ahead and add 120 guppies.
But most marine fish need more space (rather than volume).
However, adding that much volume is always a good idea, and you will find your tank will thank you.

I don't think I could have spelled it out any better. Swimming room is not added by a sump

Wow that was a long quote...I found this site only a week or so ago but it didn't take long to see who is knowledgeable and who is less than so. There is a TON of great info in here. I agree with you completely....you can only try to help for so long, and it shouldn't go so far as to discourage you from trying to help the people who will learn from your experience. I also enjoy the fact that many of us have a sense of humor. It helps ease the tension in here and the whole diver post was hilarious. I wish I had some useful info for the dude squeezing fish into his tank with a shoehorn, but frankly I got so wound up in the humor I forgot who needed help.
