Im planning on setting up a 75gl reef. For livestock I was thinking of getting the following:
1 mandarin fish
pair of gold striped maroons
1 sailfin tang
1 yellow tang
3 to 5 bangii cardinals
bubble tip anenome
corals that would do well with those fish
about 80lbs of lr
1" sand bed
Though I'm not sure about the 2 tangs.
Any info is appreciated!!!!!

I have to agree with the above statements. From what I have read on this and other sites is that sometimes Yellow Tangs tend to attack other fish that have a tang like shape. Not to mention 2 of them in a 75 gallon could be a tight fit. Mandarins are also tough to keep. They need well established tanks because their main source of food is pods. If you don't have enough and you can't get it to eat anything else, which it usually won't, it will waste away and starve. Sorry but that is what I have gathered from the reading. HTH

Don't give up on the mandarin. You can always add him in a year. By that time you can have a great tank and refugium set-up. Isn't that what this hobby teaches us.....PATIENCE

sorry to say, i lost a mandarin, because of exactly what the above advice warns against. i didn't have enough pods and he wouldn't eat anything else. wait on the mandarin until your tank is well established.

what do you folks mean by "pods", and how would i know if i had a sufficient amount of them to support a mandarin? i am planning a "do-over" of my crashed 26 gal tank with 40 lbs LS and 40 lbs LR.

Hi Raphael, sorry I didn't see this post earlier.
Skip the Sailfin IMO, sorry. The Yellow Tang should do great though.
The Mandarin will need 100 pounds + of Live rock in order to grow enough food for it. I large Refugium can replace half of that rock if you set it up right.
For Banggai, just a male and a female. No more. Yes, they school in the wild but they actually have a rather large "personal" space for such a small fish and they can't achieve that space in a 75. I have a 8' X 8' lagoon and it appear that I can only keep two adult pair in there :( otherwise they fight to the death.
Thank you for asking BEFORE you stocked your tank. Everyone will be a LOT better off (especially you) because of it.
