The "Tiger'pyge" is absolutely one of the most stunning fish on the market today. If you look at it out of the water or under the correct lighting the fish absolutely pops. The photo doesnt do it justice.
As for this being a common fish??? Ummm...nope. You will more than likely never EVER see another one as good as quality as this guy. There is question as to the $1599 price tag, well...we shall see if Old Town can sell it at that price.
My guess is that there is someone out there that has to have this fish. I was close to purchasing it, but the price shot up in a hurry. $1600...no...$1000-1200...DEFINITELY.

C. vrolikii x C. flavissima are definitely the most popular of the hybrids. However, C. flavissima x C. eibli (what this one is) are also quite common in the "Hybrid Swarm," as Randall & Pyle call it.
The problem is, C. eibli x C. flavissima are not really exported, as they are abundant in different areas than C. vrolikii x C. flavissima. The reason we do see the very rare (to the hobby) C. eibli x C. flavissima, is because they do waif to the Cocos-Keelings.
Just because they are not popular in the aquarium trade does not make them uncommon. As for the 'quality' of this fish? Its a float your boat thing. Its definitely very beautiful, but to say this is "one of a kind," is a very large stretch.

What kind of person buys that expensize of a fish for a kid. Sounds like a spoild rotten thing to me.
Anybody no if it is dead yet?

I would literally be scared about having this in my tank. Even if I did buy it, I would probably give it to somebody else to make sure it doesn't die

+1 I would be checking my water and do so much 'fixing' it would cause a problem.

Dude, just because its rare and expensive, that doesn't mean its not hardy at all. They are hardy as any other dwarf angelfish. lol Have a good tank, good filtration, and do what you always normally do and your good to go.

I figured they would be hardy but just paying that much for a fish would make me kinda nervious about losing it.

Not speaking to their hardiness, but when you have a pricey fish in a tank you watch the water parameters much more closely. My "special" tank gets water changes 10:1 over the other tanks. If I blunder with one of the others, I'd be sad and out 30 bucks. If I lost the special fish, I'd be sad and out a whole lot more. Trust me, you are really careful with that "whole lot more".

i agree with lion_crazz, if i were spending 1500 on a fish i would make sure it would be big enough to see all the time.

The kid is 16 years old BTW. lol And hes got a 34 gallon salona(sp?) tank where the angelfish is going to be in.
